In my OTHER work with students...volunteering at Christ First YTH, students often tell us they have trouble understanding what they read in the Bible. Listening to them read aloud, I usually relate that to the general lower level of reading scores on state tests (its my teacher brain...nothing personal). The topic this month at our weekly YTH meetings is about reading the Bible, so we started a plan together in the YouVersion Bible App. The verse today comes from the book of Psalm, chapter 119: "Give me understanding and I will obey your instructions; I will put them into practice with all my heart."
