The Mortals are deliberately kept in the dark about the ways of the Descended. It is why when Diem’s life changes overnight as she’s revealed to be a Descended Queen, she must learn everything from scratch. One of her first lessons is this: she must stop wearing weapons. And Diem is very attached to her weapons because of her Mortal background. The Descended will consider her weak if she continues to do so and plan her demise despite she’s Queen!
