We live in a rural area called Matsue City in Shimane Prefecture, Japan. 松江市は県庁所在地ですが、車で15分も走れば山や川、湖や海に行くことが出来ます。 昨日は東出雲という場所の山道をドライブしました。 Matsue City is the capital of the prefecture, but within a 15-minute drive you can go to mountains, rivers, lakes, and the sea. Yesterday, I took a drive along the mountain roads of a place called Higashi Izumo. 最近は日が長いので、夜の八時頃日が沈みます。 八時半ごろ山の中の小川につくと、きれいなホタルが沢山空を飛んでいました。 The days are long these days, and the sun sets around eight o'clock in the evening. When I arrived at a stream in the mountains around 8:30 p.m., I saw many beautiful fireflies flying in the sky. 蛍は山の近くの川に住んでいます。 僕は知らなかったのですが、意外と蛍は梅雨に産卵をするんですね。 Fireflies live in the rivers near the mountains. I didn't know this, but fireflies lay eggs during the rainy season. 蛍は夏休みに見るというイメージが合ったので、とても意外でした。 すごくホタルがきれいで、僕の娘も喜んでいる様子でした。 I had an image that fireflies were seen during the summer vacation, so I was very surprised. The fireflies were so beautiful that my daughter seemed to be very happy to see them. 東京に住んでいたときは蛍を見ることは不可能だったので、すごく感動し、島根に引っ越してよかったなと思いました。 When I lived in Tokyo, it was impossible to see fireflies, so I was very impressed, and I was glad to have moved to Shimane. -Questions of the day- 1.翔太は昨晩何を見に行きましたか？/What did Shota go to see last night?
