Ep 10 | Perfectionism vs. Identity in Christ: How to Stop Striving and Lead with God
from Leading from Wholeness | Boundaries, Faith, Identity, Leadership Coach · host Audrey Shelby - Podcaster & Leadership Coach
Show Notes Perfection isn’t the goal — freedom is. In this episode, we unpack how perfectionism disguises itself as spiritual maturity while quietly pulling us away from our true identity in Christ. God never called us to perform for His love. Through Jesus, we are already made whole, redeemed, and complete. When we stop striving and start trusting, we discover joy, contentment, and the power of praying Scripture over our lives. Key Themes from This Episode Perfectionism vs. Redemption Perfectionism says: Do more. Don’t mess up. Try harder. Don’t let anyone see weakness. But Scripture says something radically different: “For by that one offering he forever made perfect those who are being made holy.” — Hebrews 10:12–14 (NLT) Through Christ’s finished work, we are perfected positionally even while we are being sanctified daily. Jesus already paid the price. We don’t add to the cross with our striving. You Are Complete in Christ “He has brought you into his own presence, and you are holy and blameless…” — Colossians 1:22 “You are complete through your union with Christ…” — Colossians 2:10 “God made you alive with Christ, for he forgave all our sins.” — Colossians 2:13 Our identity is not based on performance — it’s rooted in reconciliation. Faith pleases God — not flawlessness. “It is impossible to please God without faith…” — Hebrews 11:6 God rewards those who sincerely seek Him, not those who perform perfectly. 3.The Power of Praying Scripture Sometimes we don’t know what to pray. That’s when Scripture becomes our guide. Colossians 1:9–12 models powerful prayer: Ask for knowledge of God’s will. Ask for spiritual wisdom and understanding. Ask for strength and endurance. Ask for joy. Give thanks. Praying Scripture aligns our hearts with God’s will and shifts our focus from performance to partnership.
