Ep. 100 Michelle Mitchell: The Brilliant Art of Parallel Parenting in High Conflict Divorce

from Better Divorce Podcast · host Paulette Rigo

Coach Michelle is a high conflict resolution coach, an attorney, and a badass single mom. She helps parents disengage from high conflict relationships, getting them out of court, and stepping back into their lives. Her unique combination as a certified Martha Beck life coach, a lawyer for almost 20 years, her field of study in Psychology, and her own personal family law experience, makes Michelle a well-rounded coach, capable of helping parents learn how to disengage from a challenging and protracted co-parenting relationship. Topics Michelle and Paulette discuss in today's episode:  • The fastest way to get out of family court and step back into your life is to disengage from the conflict. • It only takes one parent to disengage. • Disengaging from the conflict does NOT mean letting go of your reasonable boundaries. • When you’re forced to go to court, it is vital that you prepare yourself to disengage from the conflict. • In family court, there’s really no such thing as “winning”. • You can’t move forward with living your best life if you’re stuck in the trenches in family court. Michelle was the first person in her family to go to college or graduate school, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Philosophy, as well as her Juris Doctorate. • She has always been passionate about helping people overcome life’s obstacles, and re-inventing themselves. • Michelle was raising her son as a single mom when she was 38, and she chose to have a second child on her own at 40. Parenting her two kids and raising them to appreciate the importance of social justice and equality is what she is most proud of.
