Ep 101: Yola

Why Not Both is an exploration of how our multiple passions shape our identity, hosted by musician and therapist Pam Shaffer and produced by writer and photographer Laura Studarus. For our fourth season, we partnered up with Under The Radar to explore the lives of musicians, writers, actors, and creatives. It was such a gift to spend time with Yola, a masterful songwriter and artist, whose album Stand for Myself embodies all that we love here on Why Not Both, namely the courage to find your own identity and story. Yola reminds us that there is so much power in our narratives as she spoke of her own journey to uncover her story through her creative process. It is vital to examine the cultural tales we have been told, particularly those about gender and race and class, as we have the power to challenge their authority and rewrite the story.
