Ep. 11 - Maj. Aaron Hummel

Episode 11 of “These Are Your Neighbors” features Major Aaron Hummel. Aaron was invited to be a guest on the program because of his efforts with the North Dakota Highway Patrol. Aaron has advocated for change by focusing his efforts to address and reduce the shame and stigma associated with behavioral challenges among the law enforcement community.Major Aaron Hummel has been with the North Dakota Highway Patrol for over 24 years. Major Hummel received his bachelor’s degree from North Dakota State University and is also a graduate of the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command. He has served as a trooper, sergeant, lieutenant, captain and is currently a major where he serves as the North Dakota Highway Patrol’s Chief of Staff. His responsibilities as Chief of Staff include planning, directing, and oversight of staff and activities within the Administrative Services Division, Support Services Division and Finance. Major Hummel was presented with the Sodbuster Award for Excellence in Growth Mindset by Governor Burgum. He received this award for his efforts to address and reduce shame and stigma associated with behavioral health challenges among the law enforcement community. Major Hummel is married with two sons. In his free time, he likes to hunt and fish. He is on the Board of Directors for Special Olympics of North Dakota.
