Nearly one in five U.S. adults live with a mental illness (52.9 million in 2020).My experience with sexual assault and mental illness that followed has been one in secrecy, born of fear and shame. Going undiagnosed and untreated, I suffered in silence. Maladaptive behaviors that affected my life were just part of the norm for me.
