Dr Donegan trained in conventional medicine at St Mary’s Hospital Medical School, University of London, working across A&E, paediatrics, neonatal intensive care, obstetrics, gynaecology, and general practice. In the early 1990s, she began questioning whether the dominant medical model truly explained what she was seeing clinically, particularly in children. Since 1994, her work has focused on disease ecology: the idea that illness does not arise simply from germs or genes, but from the interaction between environment, nutrition, stress, immune maturity, and living conditions. This perspective challenges the modern tendency to frame health as a battle against pathogens rather than a process of supporting the body’s innate intelligence.
