Ep. 122 (3/7/23): NFL Offseason Update - Breakdown of Releases, Franchise Tag Rumors, Unsure Futures of Daniel Jones & Saquon Barkley, Lamar Jackson, Carr to Saints, Geno’s Extension, Rodgers & Jets

In this episode, Joey starts by talking about free agent quarterback Derek Carr signing with the New Orleans Saints, and Geno Smith’s mega extension with the Seattle Seahawks after a great 2022 season. Joey breaks down every transaction in the NFL over the past few days with a thorough recap of every player that was released, including Chiefs DE Frank Clark, Dolphins DB Byron Jones, Titans LT Taylor Lewan and Buccaneers LT Donovan Smith. In addition to that, he summarizes the franchise tag rumors across the NFL and weighs whether or not Daniel Jones and the Giants will reach a deal before the 4 p.m. franchise tag deadline. Joey gives an in-depth explanation of why Daniel Jones’ potential contract will be outside of the top 10 in average annual value (AAV) among quarterbacks in one year from now. He mentions the unlikely possibility of Lamar Jackson reaching a deal with the Baltimore Ravens and explains why he believes Jackson may not play unless he gets a long-term contract. To add on, he analyzes a potential trade package for the Chicago Bears’ first overall pick. At the end, he gives his thoughts on the rumor of Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets meeting over the last few days.
