Ep. 124 Europe, Canada hate Christianity

from His Vine & Fig Tree Podcast · host The Hardest Truths

His Vine & Fig Tree Podcast-Episode 124What do Finland, Canada, and the Chicago Bulls have in common? Each are finding ways to hate Christ followers in days leading to Easter.Finland’s Supreme Court convicted member of Parliament Päivi Räsänen and Lutheran Church Bishop Juhana Pohjola on March 26. The case stems from her tweet of Romans 1:24-27 against the Helsinki Pride Parade, a church pamphlet in 2004, and a 2019 radio discussion. A Christian Post columnist stated, “The Finnish Supreme Court upheld the acquittals related to the tweet but, by a 3–2 vote, convicted both for publishing the pamphlet.” The Finnish government aggressively pursued this case for alleged “war crimes and crimes against humanity.” Lathan Watts wrote a column for The Christian Post on this case here. Also, Canada’s House of Commons passed Bill C-09, which is a hate speech law that would criminalize Scripture. The list of groups subjected to this law are “hatred based on race, national or ethnic origin, language, color, religion, sex, age, mental or physical disability, sexual orientation or gender identity or expression.” If it is passed by the Senate, leftist Prime Minister Mark Carney has indicated he will enact it into law. This bill criminalizes Scripture. The Christian Post had a story on it here.On Monday, the NBA’s Chicago Bulls waived shooting guard Jaden Ivey, who is a Christ follower, after speaking out against Pride Month and calling it unrighteous. It was done under the large category of “conduct detrimental to the team.” A Chicago sports personality questioned Ivey’s mental health. Meanwhile, numerous athletes across multiple sports tweeted support fort Ivey. The NFL’s TreyVeon Henderson of the New England Patriots wrote several things, including several Bible verses, in support of Ivey. Some Patriots fans are suggesting Henderson must be dealt with too. The harsh reality is sports fans don’t like politics with sports. However, the Bulls crosssed a line into religious discrimination. This is a public episode.
