Good morning, good afternoon, good evening, and welcome to the latest and greatest episode of the official Dom J radio show, O.D.J radio. How y'all doing out there? Well, hope you're having a blessed day. It's Friday.
Thank God, it's Friday. Head into the weekend. We're in the middle of the whole holiday days. So I'll be giving some tips how to navigate it, family, friends, work, travel, all that.
Got some college sports tips, Gus, championship weekend ahead, peaking into the NFL playoffs, Christmas Day basketball around the corner. For me, the basketball season doesn't really start to Christmas anyway. Of course, covering arts, music, and much more as we wrap up this last episode of the year. Counting down all my favorites from 2019's in the music world.
All that and much more after this commercial break. So if you're listening to the show on Spotify like a good bit of listeners are, then you were probably logging in and seeing how Spotify has given everybody their most listened to things of the decade or the past year like they typically do every year. That's a good way of looking back and seeing all the time you spent and the artists and genres that you spend listening to accordingly. I put up something on Twitter that had my top five podcasts with all the road traveling that I do.
I definitely find my time in the car being spent mostly either bumping custom playlists or definitely listening to podcasts. So my top five podcasts that I had this year, we had the Breakfast Club, the Right Time with Bo M and I definitely recommend checking that out. Small doses by Amanda Sills, big fan of that, but I didn't discover it until mid-way this year. So I'm not totally surprised it didn't make my list, but I would definitely put that on the sleeper list of podcasts that I keep my regular rotation as well.
If I'm harkening back, I like that word, harkening, if I'm harkening back, it's some of my most played albums of this year. Oh man, there was some good music. Even though we didn't get maybe what some might say is a down year in certain respects because you don't get the A-list artists potentially making music. We didn't get a new Cole project outside of the Dreamville collaboration project.
We didn't get a new Kendrick project. You didn't get a new Big Sean project. I like Big Sean because I think he's that sort of artist that has that crossover ability. Can give you the lyrics, but can also give you the radio hits simultaneously.
Got some singles? No full project though. But if I had to say five albums that I was probably listening to a lot, we had Spilled Milk 1 by Boz. Definitely a nice little EP length project would recommend it.
So much fun by Young Thug. I mean, it's literally bangers all over that damn album. There was really no way I could not have that on my list for this year. I find myself putting songs from that album into like three or four different playlists.
So that was definitely on the list. 85 to Africa by Goudina. For me, might just be my album of the year. It was one where I put it in from tape one and really no skips, man.
Like straight up, put 85 to Africa on by Goudina. Play that John straight through. Lovely, lovely tunes there. Oh man, I had a tie as two that I wouldn't say are in the top five of the most.
But I'll come back to not gonna forget those. Chasing Summer by Sir, definitely, definitely one of my favorite projects. Very timely when he dropped that as well. You had original player by Les, Elly Dalla.
You know what I'm saying to Walter's native, born and raised, grew up in Houston. I don't know what I'm saying. Shout out to everybody in the age. He was my most listened to artists of the decade of this year.
It's been like 100 hours or so listening to that man's music. It makes nothing but hits. And three of my top five favorite artists from this year are Underground for the most part. So I'm not really surprised at currency.
I had less. I think between the two of them, yes, you'll have some similar carryovers. But I mean, I've been jet life ever since I heard of currency and wistly for the tailors way, way back back in the younger years when he was just coming up as freshmen in the dorm. Shout out to the folks that was there.
You know what I'm saying? We had that little discovery finding out about them about Jake Hoel was a beautiful, beautiful time to be alive when that music. And those particular artists were really just getting their shine on. And T.R.
Thomas, she's not Underground. Obviously, a lot of people, if you don't know who T.R. Thomas is, you shouldn't. If you do know, she's not necessarily Underground.
But if we're talking about as far as that, just pop appeal or mass appeal, I would consider her one of my favorite Underground R&B ladies who's got awards for songwriting for other people as well as her own individual music. Definitely a huge, huge man. So I'm not surprised. She was on my top five list either.
Some projects though that I would say could have been on the list. TM104, The Legend of the Snowman by Geezy. I mean, man, Geezy makes great projects. Is that a surprise?
No, it is not. What I put it in my top five albums, I'd be lying if I said I was, but I definitely want to get that honorable mention. And the Eve album by Rhapsody. You know, you want to talk about ladies who'd be rapping their asses off?
It's not a lot I could really compare to Ms. Rhapsody when it comes to that. She definitely was giving you all the Black vibes that you could need. All the lyricism hitting you over your head with it with a banging set of features on her album as well.
Really a beautiful, beautiful project for her. And then if I had to give that last quarter of the year album that really came into rotation for me, would definitely be Hollywood's bleeding by Post Malone. I mean, it hits all over the album once again, Post Malone with the features that he has. I mean, it's really hard to not find yourself up in that.
And I think some combination of all of that plus like Kirk from the baby, I mean, it'll get you definitely moving and grooving in the right direction. Really a song for any occasion. You got your most talented people doing collaborations. And that's why as a music fan, I appreciate that.
I hate when an artist says I'm not doing features or something of that nature. I like to see people that you know have this collection of talent that be on tours and things together. Y'all might as well be making more and more music together if you got it, because why not? I feel like yes, there's always going to be appreciation for you just giving us a hot 16 that leads into a 32 and a 48 over a song.
That's great. We all know that you have that individual standalone talent, but come on, man. I mean, as many producers and connections as these people be making, you can't get mad when you see an artist and the album has maybe 50% features or something of that nature on it. It's almost to be expected with the day and age in the way people are consuming music.
So, you know, it's weird when I hear people and they're like, oh, man, he just went and got a bunch of features. Well, what did you really expect at this day and age? Other honorable mention albums, Wild That's Crazy by Ylay. I'm a Ylay fan.
The more about nothing or the about nothing series in general from him, I definitely have to be up there with when I discovered Mac Miller, currency in Will's Khalifa. And the first about nothing table Ylay's holds that same special place for me. And so like this Wild That's Crazy project is definitely another good project for the discography of Ylay. And I think he's one of those slept on artists, but it's I guess it may be personality based.
That's why people don't really be messing with Ylay like they should, but I definitely recommend that as one of the sleeper albums. Now, considering the amount of music I listen to, I could go on and on, but there are definitely some albums in this last like 30 to 45 days that I can't say I've been bumping all the 2019 periodically. Obviously, because I didn't come out until like I said 30 to 45 days. But here are some nominees for albums that recently came out that you should also check out if you have similar listening taste to myself.
Plan of Attack by currency trademarked to skydiver and young Radi. I mean, come on man, need I say more currencies in my top five most played artists right up there with, like I said, less and will as Khalifa. So that seems pretty obvious. Destination by Rocky Fresh, no longer with MMG, his first independent project.
And he definitely came to show that he's here to stay with or without that MMG label attached. So I have to recommend that Chicks Take 5 by Tori Laynes. People were acting as if they didn't know what to expect out of a Chicks Take. Like he hasn't done this, like I said, this is Chicks Take 5.
So there were before previous Chicks tapes along the same line of samples and features that people seem to be taking it back. Like, oh my goodness, are these really good songs? Like literally this is the same formula that the man has done for this particular series. That he's done in the past.
But Chicks Take 5 definitely got some R&B slappers on there, the features, bananas. So definitely got to nominate that. Summertime shootout 3, the coldest summer ever by fabulous. A similar look tape to the Post Malone Hollywood Bleeding Tape where you have a bunch of features all over the album.
But this is that same in that same sort of lane as a Chicks Tape where it's part of a series. Again, Summertime shootout 3, coldest summer ever by fabulous, features on there are bananas. I love fabulous as one of the best rappers of all time. Potentially slept on if you get out of that, you know, northeast corner of the world.
His claim across the country may not be what it is, but fab's pinmanship is bar none, man. It's really up there. Then I had Prestige Worldwide, a joint collaborative effort between smoke, dissa and currency. I mean, shhh, man, it's all my jet life is out there.
You probably fuck with smoke, dissa too, so definitely check that out. You had Organic the Deluxe version by Casey Veggi's sleeper pick there as well. I think he had an additional 5 or 6 songs to this project. I love the original organic.
Definitely one of those that should be in the rotation, nice West Coast vibes and blends put into that. In Casey Veggi's He and Rocky Fresh, those are two artists I kind of discovered along the same lines. They have their own French Veggi's collaborations that if you haven't heard the French Veggi's tape before, they're working on the second one. You can go and check that out now before that drops.
Definitely think you'd be a fan of that. And again, my most listened to artists of the year, Les put out a 3-piece EP called Time Attack. We'd also recommend that while you wait for his album to drop, which drops this weekend. I mean, there you have it, man.
I've given you all more than enough albums to review just off of this year alone. I mean, it's been an impeccable year. So definitely check some of those out if you haven't already. Let me know what you all have been bumping.
If I need to add something to my list before this year is over with. In sports, it is championship weekend, which means we will be having a slate of championship games kicking off all over the course of Saturday. You have your Big 12 championship, your Big 10 championship, the SEC, the ACC, the Pac-12, the conferences that don't matter, championships. Everybody who is in the conference has a championship game this weekend.
Some of the key ones that I think are going to be defining who gets in and left out of the playoffs. I think starts with Baylor, Oklahoma at 12 Eastern on ABC. Oklahoma won on this crazy comeback. Ever from Javan Hurts in the squad there to beat Baven, give them their only loss of the year.
Will it be a repeat? I think Oklahoma will be more in control of this one, even though the game is in, you know, the good old Jerry World Stadium in Dallas and Waco's not that far from Dallas. I think Oklahoma, rather, will have the slight edge this time around not have that same slow start. I don't know if Baylor will be able to pull it off, even though if they do, it would be much appreciated.
We've got UL in Appalachian State, don't really care. Cincinnati and Memphis, don't really care. Hawaii and BSU, don't really care. UVA and Clemson.
Clemson should probably win that game by three or four touchdowns. I'm not really looking forward to that game either. And you've got Utah and Oregon. Utah's defense is supposed to be stout.
Oregon already has two losses on the year, but they could upset Utah's hands at a college football playoff spot by upsetting them as Utah sits in that five spot on the outside looking in right now. Justin Herbert, quarterback for Oregon, a lot of hype behind him, potential top five, top ten pick in the next year's draft as it's a nice quarterback draft. Get you one if you need one. You'll have his last really good chance, I think, to make a statement in a big game to really let the nation know what's been going on at Oregon all this year.
And then, of course, the featured game of the day that I'll be looking at is a tie between UGA or Georgia and LSU, as well as Ohio State and Wisconsin. Now, I don't expect Wisconsin to beat Ohio State. I really don't. Wisconsin's already got two losses on the year.
I think Ohio State's going to come in with a game plan to shut down Wisconsin's running game as they love to lean on that with Taylor. And once that's shut down, then, you know, they can turn around with fields and throw all those quick slants and nine routes to a bunch of track team members because that's typically what makes up the Ohio State wide receiving core. And even though you might can't expect it, they also have a potent running game as well. So I think that duality will be a little too much for Wisconsin.
I like Ohio State to win that. And I hope they do win that. So then when LSU finishes beating Georgia, and we can go ahead and get that rumble in with that one or four seats, they've been trying to make it like LSU's the second best team in the country after beating four top ten teams at the time. They were ranked just because Ohio State's beating Michigan, who they've been beating basically every year since Jim Harbaugh took over there and Penn State, which hasn't won anything significant in the old match.
Quite some time. I mean, James Franklin is doing a solid job there, but there's nothing really to write home about beating a middling offensively potent team in Penn State. But hey, man, they can have the number one ranking. Long as LSU gets into the dance, that's all that matters, baby.
Go Tigers, Joe Burrow all the way. We'll be handling business. And I definitely think that game kicking off at four o'clock. Eastern on CBS, Georgia versus LSU for all the marbles in Atlanta for the SEC Championship.
Game of the Week. Kicking off this week in the NFL, the Dallas Cowboys lost another game against a 500 or better team. They've yet to beat. Quality team this year.
No coaching changes expected for the most talked about on sports, television, football team in the country. Business is booming, but if you're a fan of actual winning football, it's definitely not booming in that direction. Now, there are some marquee games that I'll be watching this weekend. You've got Baltimore sitting there at 10 and 2, having beaten the breaks off to Sean Watson and the Texans beating the 49ers, beating the Patriots.
Now they get the Bills. 9 and 3 tough teams should be a good game. You've got these Saints and 49ers playing in New Orleans. Don't know how Jimmy Garoppolo and company are going to fare.
With that crazy crowd that's going to be there in the Superdome, should make for a very interesting game. Tough defense to Drew Brees and Michael Thompson going to have their hands full. Alan Camara could be the wild card. And now when I kind of like the Saints at home there, Jimmy G, I don't know if he's going to be able to deal with that.
But this will be a good test to see. Can he deal with that hostile crowd noise on the road? Because again, with the Seattle Seahawks having beaten the 49ers, the 49ers could be a 10 win team that has to go on the road in the playoffs. And so hey, this could be a nice little preview of that.
Then you've got Kansas City and New England. Kansas City has come up short and a couple of times made it very interesting in games against the Patriots. Patriots offense has been sputtering, but they've been winning games on special teams and defense with Tom Brady doing just enough to get by. Oh man, I would never root for either one of these teams being a Broncos fan, but my team is so trash and out of it, I had to pick.
I don't like seeing Tom Brady win, but I'd like to see that man retire at some point. I know Patriots are going to probably be in the playoffs and make another beat playoff run. All conventional wisdom and points for that. In this specific game, do I think the teams can go in there and beat New England?
In New England? I don't know. Vegas says otherwise. I'm inclined to go where the money goes.
Kind of like New England and pull that one off, but I expect it to kind of be a high scoring game. And then on the evening tip, you've got Seattle and the Rams. The Rams haven't beaten the breaks off of Cardinals, but Cardinals are a bottom-basement team, which is a good win for the Rams on short in Seattle. Also sitting at 10 wins on top there division, but having lost two, the Saints.
These are looking like two top two teams between the Saints and the Seahawks as far as the NFC pitcher goes. I like Seattle to win that game. Russell Wilson, definitely up there for the MVP ratings, right behind Lamar Jackson, if you're looking at the betting eyes on that one. I don't know.
I think these last few games could definitely define which one of those two candidates. I really think it's between the two of them as far as storylines going. That's what the NFL is all about as far as who will be the MVP. Whenever I had a vote, I think it would be Lamar Jackson seeing the improvement he's made in year two as in compared to his rookie year.
They went to see him galvanize behind him in a similar fashion as they do. People who have already established themselves like Russell Wilson to see the next great minority quarterback having that same sort of encapsulating and galvanizing impact on a team. It's definitely a beautiful thing to watch, so that should also be a good game. Now since the last episode, there was other NFL news surrounding Colin Kaepernick and a workout.
This workout apparently was scheduled by the NFL randomly, and while most workouts happen at a specific time, they decided to have this not on that same sort of day. Short notice, his people will inform him. He then informs the internet, but when he finds out about it and things proceed to go from there. We're on the day of the scheduled workout at the last minute.
He decides to change locations, losing about 75% of the teams that were going to be there in the process, and then ends up encapsulating in one of his speeches. He's been ready. He's going to stay ready. We'll be ready until the NFL stop hiding, etc.
Now a lot of this I thought of was white noise, much to do about nothing. That's not to minimize Colin Kaepernick and his stance, but it was a situation where looking back as just an outsider, sort of saying how game recognizes the game, that the NFL was not genuinely trying to give you the best way to put forward. Now that's in giving you late notice. One right there, okay?
Not a whole lot of time, less than a week as far as putting this all together. And it's being done again by the NFL, not a particular team, because an individual team could have you come through to work out, or if you've just been following Colin Kaepernick in general, and we're a team, you can definitely see that the man has been working out last six times a week, staying ready. He said it on one of the last night, he spoke in public, that he was going to stay ready for that sort of opportunity. But we reached this sort of precipice with this impromptu practice.
The NFL being the NFL corporation, a billion dollar corporation whose best and bested interest is in itself. Tried to pull a fast one on him with some medical paperwork, tying in the potential for legal ramifications and not being held culpable in the future. Now that can be off-putting, as I imagined with his camp, and he went over that and found that. That it was one of the reasons they decided, you know what, fuck it, we're going to change venues in Atlanta, which is a hard thing to do.
One, we're going to send people almost an hour in another direction to deal with that. So, okay, that's fine. Everybody want to pull out their petty cars. That is perfectly fine.
But I just feel all of this has to be in the understanding that this was not really for any specific reason or intention of giving Kaepernick another job in the NFL. And I say that because if it was supposed to be genuine, it wouldn't have been off of the rip on a short notice. If there was truly specific teams I were interested, again, they could have brought him in to work out at any point in time, you know, have your standard eyes, forms ready for everyone. Instead of trying to, let me just slide his language in here about potential pending litigation against us not being a thing.
Now, I respect his right as an individual to be like, nah, man, I'm not signing that. But I will ball out because, like he said, he's been ready. Gonna stay ready. Showing up two said workout in a coonta kinta shirt.
Very funny. The sarcastic asshole in me definitely appreciates that. But again, with perspective of an unemployed person trying to be employed, but also having pending litigation against your potential employer has just a lot of messiness. And this man involved in this whole situation that again goes back to my original point.
This was never gonna be a real attempt at getting this man a job in the first place. In the NFL and from their perspective, you're doing things that face value. Things that look good for the public, keep stock prices up, keep butts in seat, keep good word of mouth being breathed over your business. And the handling of this was just a messy, messy situation.
It had TV characters like Stephen A Smith getting all out of pocket with his commentary and then having to walk that long mile back when he found out more information and took a less immediate, you know, and endearing stance. Against an individual versus a corporation. Now that's something that's going to happen when you're on TV like these media personalities are for hours at a time. Four or five, six days a week.
You're gonna have some hot takes that you're definitely gonna have to walk back and that sort of instance. Okay. I'm sure he wasn't the only one. But again, they're making immediate reactions knee jerk reactions with limited information.
What do I think as far as his chances having become this martyr of sorts? What are his chances at being employed by the NFL again? They're slim to none. I'm not really here to sugarcoat it.
I'm just looking from the outside in man's been unemployed. Three, four years scrubs on top of scrubs. I've gotten opportunities as backup quarterbacks people who weren't even quarterbacking for years at a time were called up news. I was working in classrooms, working in high schools and things of that nature were getting called up.
At the NFL had any real inclination he would have already most likely have been signed. But again, there's still pending litigation between two of them. The NFL is in a safe face safe corporation business model. They just happened to bundle this situation by trying to pull a fast one and so it became a petty war.
Now, all that makes for great entertainment again. I don't understand how his camp his being Kaepernick's camp has made it clear to him this sort of back and forth until this litigation is completely resolved. Pretty much reduce your chances of getting employed. Then again, while I respect the kouta kente shirt, the attire and his demeanor and attitude towards the quote unquote man or the corporation that is the NFL.
Again, if this was so terrible, why would you want this to be your employee? Now I get it, it's the only place in the world where you play the National Football League. But again, thinking just outside of your hopes and dreams and looking at the actual reality of the situation and the people that are in charge, the same billionaires that are in charge of teams. Now that we're in charge of teams three, four years ago that can take a collective stance behind doors and not hiring you.
Yes, they can get new people under them as far as GM's and head coaches to evaluate all potential talent and they themselves can do it from afar because they know it's a farce. And so that's how you end up with only seven or eight teams at the new location for the practice where you had a proposed or alleged 20 plus teams at the original practice location. But again, these are the same people that made that collective decision, then and it was again the NFL not individual teams trying to coordinate this effort. So again, who are you trying to get employed by?
What do you look like at this, you know, quote unquote, alleged job interview, if you will. And what progress is really being brought about much ado about nothing man. I've never thought it was a genuine thing. I don't think he's going to get another genuine attempt and although that may be unfortunate looking at where it is and what his cause.
And stands has become since he last played. It kind of is just the clear and obvious layout for all parties moving forward. The NFL is going to do what they do to try and make face value whenever they can because that's all they care about. Think about them.
Think about this billion dollar business. Making sure that business continues to boom. Cap and I'll leave you one to play in the NFL again. Your cause for social injustice.
Rightfully so you have every right to speak on it. Act on it however you like. Got your job or potential job of employment in this particular situation. With these particular actors, you have to sort of realize like, yo, it's not going to be on the up and up with any litigation for quite some time.
And so will he ever play again? I don't know. I have to give you a percentage scale is zero to 100 10% or less. I just don't see it happening.
It's an unfortunate circumstance. But in a world where again capitalism rules man cash rules everything around me. Green dollar dollar bill. Y'all Wu Tang said it best.
Got to realize what the game is and who's playing who. And just when you thought the 2020 election couldn't be more crowded because of the number of candidates we've had a few nobody's drop out of the race and other billionaires like Bloomberg jump into the race. Which is really unfortunate that people are deciding. You know what?
In the last, I don't know, let's say two quarters of the year before elections. Let me go ahead and jump into race man. Fuck you. Why not?
Oh man. I just feel like there's still too many candidates to choose from man. I mean, if you look at any poll currently statistics, early data analysis is giving Biden still the lead followed by Sanders, Buddha judge and Elizabeth Warren. But the problem is with just those candidates, they don't compile everybody taking away votes and percentages potentially because you've got Bloomberg.
You've got Harris. You've got gang. You still got Klobuchar. You still got Booker.
Still got Castro. Still got Gabbard. And some other people who I don't even know who they are, but they're polling at less than 1%. Technically, technically still in it.
I think that is unfortunate. I've already given y'all what I thought would have been a good 2020 ticket that wasn't going to happen with America. But considering it doesn't appear that the black community is fully standing behind either black candidate and black women in particular are not really jiving with Kamala Harris, which is unfortunate for her because it seems like this is going to be all for not. Looking like Biden, Sanders, Warren and Buddha judge are going to be the top four if you can dwindle it down to just four candidates.
You've had Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi bringing up some official or wants to bring forward formal impeachment, a formal impeachment inquiry on Trump. I just don't know, man. I want to believe that it leads to something. Maybe before he can get ousted through voting that maybe we can get him out here.
But it doesn't really seem too prosperous. I can't be overly optimistic about that. I feel like he's just going to end up seeing this out. I mean, it's like we have evidence of, you know, bribery or abuse of power and things of that.
And then you'll find out 24 hours later, it's not enough evidence, not hard evidence, not the right kind of evidence. It's all this back and forth with this impeachment process. It's really just nauseating. It's almost like Cowboys takes in media where they just talk about the Cowboys is over and over at Nausea.
Almost every day. They're the most average team doing a whole lot of nothing every time you turn around, except this is very important because we're talking about impeachment inquiries against the President of the United States, but it doesn't seem like there's really any traction getting gained. I don't know. Maybe I'm too pessimistic at this point, but who knows, man?
I'd like to hear what y'all think, man. What do y'all opinions do y'all think? He'll be impeached. Do you think we'll get another four years?
Ugh. Who law that would be tough? We'll get another four years of this of a person not being experienced in one of the most important positions in the country, in the world. Just out here winging it, doing all kind of stuff.
I mean, if you think about it from that sort of perspective, somebody gets a job that they're not really quiet for, that they have no pre-prehensible experience for, and they just started doing shit. What are the chances that they do something illegal? I'd say probably a pretty high percentage chance, considering you end up being surrounded by nothing but a bunch of yes, man, who don't understand it. Patriotism goes to country, not that particular person.
I think it's one of the biggest misconceptions. People want to be so loyal. It's parties and things of that nature not forgetting you are supposed to be representative of a country or a particular reason of the country because you're an elected official, supposed to be operating on behalf of integrity with a sense of justice, character, morals. But in Country Rule by Capitalism and Divided by Party Lines, that's all.
This week's spoken word segment is entitled Formalities Excluded. That's Formalities Excluded. In our spoken word segment, you can check this and more. Over on the official Dom J word press page, the invisible eye content created by yours truly.
Formalities Excluded. Coming up next. Formalities Excluded. Dear Poetry, for a minute I had lost my way.
I had placed you on the shelf and you just asked for a day. We've been together since I was a young boy, inseparable, like conjoined twins you give me so much joy. As cliche as it may seem I'm bad, not necessarily better than ever but inside of me. There's a new light in your the reason I'm being.
The spiteful I was glad that while I was gone, nobody came along and managed to get in between you and I by damaging what we both knew and feel is so strong. For that I'm grateful. But I won't lie, I would have been mad that somebody had exerted dominance over you like an overbearing stepdad. I'm such a hypocrite.
Toss your side while I knew Aquinas is occupying my present mind, but if you ever chose to leave me I get defensive with my pride. It's not that I don't think of you. If I ever had to prove to you that I love you I'd never deny. Should I relish out the opportunity for you to see the antagonism that's been berating me, helping me, keeping my thoughts from fleeting to thee mentally impaling me.
But I know it's just excuses. So to put it short, I'm here for you my dear. I'm reopening myself to you in an attempt to make it clear that if you ever feel forsaken I'll be the first to shed it to you. If you ever feel deserted then you can damn sure be for certain that I'll recapture that magic and reveal you behind the curtain.
After all, I'm here to stay. Four minute I had lost my way. I had placed you on the shelf and you just asked for a gay. We've been together since I was a young boy and separated but I can join twins.
You give me so much joy. Formality's excluded. So we're in the midst of the holiday season and really if you think about it, starting from like Halloween at the end of October then you'll have Thanksgiving, last week of November, Christmas, last week of December, rose into the New Year, New Year's Eve, and New Year in January rolling into February with Valentine's Day. Ah man, from a capitalistic standpoint, business has got to be booming during this time of the year.
You want to talk about hitting people in the pockets. Show me the love. I'll show you the money. But if you like me, you've got to try and plan ahead as much as you possibly can and realize there's only so many hours in the day.
Only going to be able to see so many people in any certain point in time. And therefore you can't stress, man. I feel like during this time of the year you'll have a lot of research that shows depression can go up during this holiday season. And I think one of the best things of fighting against that is to realize one's own limitations and trying to please other people.
First, have to check with that star player in the mirror and make sure you're up to being around people on a continued basis, dealing with the hustle and bustle of travel, airport delays, airplane, take off delays, closures, cancellations, all those sorts of things. It's a lot of mental preparation. Just as much of the actual planning and prep, monetary compensation, all of that, the mental aspect of it can be just as draining if you're ever wondering at the end of any ordinary day. But you're feeling especially fatigued.
For no really obvious or apparent reason. It's probably the mental weight, man. To really be honest about it, I think that's something I've definitely seen myself going through in some instances where it's like, man, you feel heavier than you might normally for no apparent reason. Sometimes it's getting that mental weight off of yourself realizing there's only so much you can do.
Yes, you want to show love and affection to everybody near and from afar, but don't wear yourself out in the process of doing it. It's always important to stay in tune with that star player in the mirror. Seek clarity. Try to make things as crystal clear as you can with your intentions with everybody.
I mean, I never find that to be a bad idea. Setting expectations if you must. Like, hey, we got so much time. Hey, we link up.
We link up. If not, hey, got to keep it moving, mate. Don't to keep it moving. I think with that in mind, I don't make it a little easier if you're really trying to figure out how you're going to get everything accomplished that you might want to and enjoy yourself at the same time.
So really and truly, I think it's a balancing act. Just like any of the other aspects, whether it be work-life balance, you know, family-friend balance, personal, business balance. It's really all about maintaining that as much as possible. It's hard, man.
Life will swing the most random things actually, by definition life is as random as it could possibly get your best-made plans are often pointless because life don't give a damn about your plans. So in knowing that can't stress when it doesn't go as expected, and everything there has to be a level of expectations that things will not go as expect, or else it would just be running code on a computer. It wouldn't be that randomization, but life is as random as it gets. But only that will get you in the pits.
So that wraps up this episode of ODJ Radio, the official Dom J Radio show hosted by yours truly. It's been a very interesting year. I know I didn't do my What's Happened with Rihanna segment, but I don't know if Rihanna's going to drop an album in the midst of her global domination, but definitely check out her new book that she just dropped. I think I talked about that on the last episode.
And fellas, if you haven't gotten your lady some of that new Savage Fenty, you'll be doing her and yourself some favor by copying that during this holiday season. But anyway, in the meantime, in between time y'all stay blessed, watch your heads, protect yourself during this holiday season. I hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday season. Near and far with friends and family, and go into the New Year feeling rejuvenated, and setting out to accomplish things like you had already been doing.
Just in a new year with a new mind frame. Looking ahead to new opportunities. Y'all be blessed, less stressed, drinking water, mind your business, until the next time. Peace.
