Ep. 136: Should We Let ANYONE Go Into Space?
from Fascinating Gadgets, Gizmos, and Gear Based Technologies
Ever since 1969, we have been a space faring race, that is if you happened to be one of rare few who were selected to fly into orbit. Not anymore! Several companies are offering top flight service into the stratosphere, provided you are a bazillionaire. As with all things, the price will come down, but it begs the question: Should ANYONE get to go into space? That is one of the questions we answer this week as we scientifically analyze the cinematic classic “Beavis and Butthead Do The Universe”. The duo are awarded a trip to the ISS to help dock a supply vessel. By the end of the trip, lives have been lost, and an untold amount of damages have occurred. This may be an extreme example, but it highlights the dangers of space travel, even after 50+ years of practice. Plus, can anyone ever be prepared for the “Overview Effect”? If you don’t know what that is, don’t worry, we have you covered. And if you ever start to have feelings for your phone’s AI, we talk about that on this episode too.
