Ep. 143 - unpopular truth: You're not over worked

from ESGfitness · host Emma Storey-Gordon

Harsh truth time.. You’re not burnt out because you are working too hard. It’s the not setting boundaries, not coming off social media and doing low level, low productivity work constantly that is burning you out. You aren’t working too hard you are working for too long with zero out put. You’re ‘working’ all the time but you never actually focus and quite frankly your productivity is shit. It is like trying to build muscle by doing 100s of body weight squats rather than actually lifting some weight and creating an adequate stimulus for growth… and then resting and recovering so that growth can occur. The idea behind rest, recovery and adaptation is that you are able to come back and work harder.. not that you work less hard. It is easy to fall into the trap of long hours and achieving very little. But you feel like you’re hustling because you’ve been on your laptop from 6am to 11pm. This is almost bred into us given how we are usually paid - for time not productivity. Sure, you might be burnt out but it’s not because you’re working too hard. And anyway, it’s not really about working harder, I am not telling you that you need to work harder… it’s about working smarter. - Make a plan - Set time - Set boundaries - Turn off the internet - Have defined tasks/ a to do list & do some focused work without distractions. You will be amazed how much you get done in an hour if you turn your phone/the internet off and actually focus. That way you will get more and higher quality work done AND have time to switch off/ relax. I would love to know what you think: @ESGfitness
