The discussion reflects on the advantages of the earlier generation, the importance of self-love, overcoming fear of reactions specifically from family, the hope for the future and the accomplishments of the LGBTQA+ movement, gender confirmation surgery, and so on. Gennifer continues to teach us about the essential trust needed in the trans community, the importance of mental health, and finally reaching a place to be around people who accept her for who she is and feeling blessed in her life with such grace and humbleness. ~~~DR. GENNIFER HERLEY Ph.D. is the founder and Executive Director of TransNewYork. TransNewYork’s mission is to bring awareness to the issues facing the transgender/gender-diverse community and give guidance and support to individuals and their loved ones within an open and safe environment. Dr Herley works with allies of the transgender community, additionally, TransNewYork provides Transgender/Gender Diverse educational training seminars or Organizations. We provide an array of services to help maintain and expand diversity and inclusion within organizations. Her career has taken two paths, corporate management roles and business and personal coaching, and both have merged into nonprofit organizational leadership. In addition, Dr. Herley is a Board member of I’m from Driftwood which aims to help LGBTQ people learn more about their community, straight people learn more about their neighbors and everyone learn more about themselves through the power of storytelling and story-sharing. Dr. Herley is also an adjunct professor of Sociology at John Jay College of Criminal Justice.
