Ep 15: All the -Opias! Utopia, Dystopia, Ustopia and Optopia in ecofiction

from Ecofictology · host Lovis Geier

Hey ecofictologists and welcome to episode 15 of the Ecofictology podcast! This week we are doing a bit more of a definitions episode and talking about all the various -opias that we come across in ecofiction. Dystopia and Utopia are the most well known and there is a lot of controversy about how much of either of them we need, but then there are some less well-known ones in there like ustopia coined by margaret Atwood and Optopia coined by Kim Stanley Robinson, two big names in the ecofiction world. Interesting differences between all the opias so let’s get into it. This episode is made up of two archived episodes from my youtube channel so if you prefer the visual medium, you can find the links in the shownotes. I hope you enjoy Utopian vs Dystopian Ecofiction: what can they offer us? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ytko15Jx55M There are other opias!
