https://survivingthesystem.org/Paul graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Child Development from Iowa State1978, and then obtained his Master’s of Social Work with a Specialization in Marriage and Family Therapy in 1983.Between 1983 and 2006, Paul worked as a NE State Licensed Mental Health Therapist. He provided mental health services to students in several schools, as well as Heartland Family Services. He retired from his full time position with UPS in 2017, and since that time has developed a volunteer program to support mental health and literacy at a local elementary school.He currently volunteers his time at a 7 Step Club in the Nebraska State Penitentiary, and with Rise in several prisons in Nebraska. He collaborates with peers, NE state Senators, Government leaders, and Community Advocacy Organizations to lobby for passage of legislation restricting the use of solitary confinement for vulnerable populations.Steven is a former gang member in Omaha, NE and was incarcerated for 12 months in 2000. During his time, he met individuals who helped him to turn his life around. Once released, he started to give back to community. First, by coaching youth basketball and volunteering as a field manager for the Omaha Nighthawks and Omaha Rhinos. He is the former resident commissioner for the Omaha Housing Authority, having been selected by the Mayor of Omaha herself. Some of his other former volunteer efforts also include - Chair of the Early Learning Center Policy and Procedures Council and Board Member for Project Homeless Connect. He is currently the VP of HIO (Housing in Omaha) and is a certified community health worker with Douglas County DHHS. He also holds an Associate's in Human Services and Chemical Dependency Counseling.https://survivingthesystem.org/
