What would it look like if you let your 13-year-old self-make a major life decision for you AND your family? That’s exactly what Mandy Manning did. In 2018, she came across a bucket list written by her 13-year-old self and on the top of that list was “Living in Europe with my Family.” Part dreamer, garden lover, Ennegram 7 embracing, lover of any self-help program and Iowa suburban working mother of 2 decided to listen to her 13-year unabashed self and do just that. In 2019, they sold their cars, rented their house, and left behind the security of their suburban lives for a year and heading overseas with their family of 4 and only 4 carry on backpacks. The goal was initially for intense family bonding, but the experience helped them all understand each other better while living with less and they experienced the world whether that was through a home stay in a remote village in northern Thailand, floating in the Dead Sea or getting quarantined in a 3rd century ancient Roman city in Croatia during Covid.
