On Thursday 3 November 2016 The Queen opened the new National Horse Racing Museum in Newmarket as part of her 90th birthday celebrations. Chris Garibaldi, the former Director of the National Horse Racing Museum was a member of a small group who accompanied The Queen, the patron of the museum, around the historic 5-acre site in Palace Street, Newmarket On a momentous day for Newmarket, Suffolk and the NHRM Chris recalls The Queen’s Day at the Museum where she met one of her own horses Barbers Shop in the Rothschild yard, had a chat with staff member Frank Conlon in the simulator gallery, did a bit of Newmarket Monopoly shopping before she crossed the road to view the fabulous paintings at the home of British Sporting Art in Palace House. Chris reveals what it was like to accompany The Queen, during her hour long stay at the former racing stables of Charles II along with an amusing story involving a lift engineer!  Finally, Chris reflects on the events after The Queen’s death on 8 September through his own moving experience of visiting Westminster Hall for the lying-in-state.
