Ep. 16. / Simon Gattinger's bright way of becoming a great Wachau winemaker
from Wine Ghosts · host Máté Vass
Today’s guest is Simon Gattinger, a 22-year old winemaker from the Wachau Valley, Austria. He inherited precious vineyard sites on the Eastern side of the valley and took the courage to establish his own wine label a couple of years ago. He shared his plans and main considerations behind his new plantings, revealed some secrets about the precious soil compositions of the Wachau, and emphasized the importance of recently becoming a member of the Vinea Wachau. We also tasted his three nuanced wines via Skype together while Simon explained his winemaking philosophy and gave some tips for interesting wine pairings. This guy is bursting of motivation, so listen to his ambitions and try his wines, they won’t let you down. After this talk, you could also watch the video on YouTube with me tastings his wines with some utterly delicious food-pairing, and with Simon sending his greetings from his vineyards with a stunning view. But now: please grab your glass and enjoy.
