Ep. 160: Claire Woolner & The Importance of PDA (Public Displays of Altadena)

from Bleav in The Comedy Bureau Field Report · host Bleav Podcast Network

The famous line from Field of Dreams, "If you build it, they will come," has inspired many wondrous places to open and has certainly been an ethos for comedy venues for decades. That said, there are instances where someone is building a space with the hopes of just having a space to do exactly what they want without having to stress too much about turn out. Through such a spirit, Public Displays of Altadena was opened by both Claire Woolner and Kevin Krieger as the Greater LA Area's newest comedy venue wanting to be a limitless sandbox for genre-bending, experimental comedy. We go in-depth with Claire, on this week's TCB Field Report, about her journey to wanting to open a micro-theater through wanting to develop a solo show and not wanting to rehearse in her garage all the way to co-founding PDA and getting ready to take said solo show to the world famous Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Also, "hot" takes on comedy news is suspiciously more fun than usual? Follow PDA at publicdisplaysofaltadena.com and @pda_space across socials. Submissions for The Official Altadena Film Festival are due Fri. 4/21 (5/11 for late deadline) here, then screened at PDA on 6/10.
