Ep. 161: How Trauma Affects Your Identity and Sense of Self

from Surrender to Heal: Biblical Healing|Trauma Recovery| Nervous System Regulation| Emotional Regulation| Mental Health| Christian Women · host Melanie Chavez- B.S. Ed., Certified Trauma Coach

Welcome back! Today I’m sharing all about how trauma affects your sense of self and identity. We also talk about how God is the only one who gives us our identity and I share a great tool to help you stop believing the lies from the enemy and step into the truth of who God says you are! Your identity gives you your sense of self, It is a set of traits that distinguishes you from other people, because while you might have some things in common with others, no one else has the exact same combination of traits as you! Childhood Trauma creates a loss of self and disconnect. In order to “survive” your body and mind is thrown into a huge developmental dilemma- to sabotage your inner connection with yourself (i.e. your worth, identity, etc.) in order to maintain connection with your parents or caregivers, even if they are too overwhelmed or “unavailable” to you. This results in: -a lost sense of self (identity) -codependence - inner pain and turmoil -negative thoughts and feelings about yourself and your worth Can you relate? Remember You are so loved, seen, & valued more than you can imagine! XO, Melanie “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering “.
