Ep.164 – Interview with Austin Ingerman from New Years Day and Gunshine

from When Words Fail...Music Speaks · host James Cox & Blake Moseley

Austin started playing guitar at the age of seven and began playing professionally when he was 17. He moved out west and started playing in different clubs, festivals, and arenas. He took a break from playing when he was 16, but started again when he was 17 and realized he should take it more seriously. He enjoys playing classical music and Hendrix songs. Austin discusses their experience as a musician, growing up in Pensacola, and their thoughts on cover bands. They mention that there is a big cover band scene in Pensacola, and that their favorite cover bands to see growing up were those that played their favorite songs. T Austin then discusses the music scene in their area, which is popular with tourists and spring breakers. They note that there is a good market for cover bands, but that eventually they decided to focus on their own songwriting. They explain that they were recommended for an audition with the band New Year's Bay, and were offered the gig after impressing the band members. The speaker reflects on how this was a huge opportunity for them, and how everything changed after they joined the band, including their touring and scheduling.
