EP 17: Black History Spotlight: Stolen Patent from an Enslaved Inventor

I’m sure it’s no surprise that our people our geniuses and even through the toughest atrocities and adversities, we still were able to be ingenious. Meet Benjamin Boardley. He was an #engineer who built machines at just 16 years old. He then used old scrap metal to build a steam engine. Like many brilliant slaves, his inventions were stolen and patented by others. But he was fortunate enough to get paid for some of his work, eventually able to purchase his freedom and became an instructor for the Navy.
