Ep. 17 Escape from Island of the Dead Dolls and Typhoid Mary
from Oy with the Terror Podcast · host Oy with the Terror Podcast
We are back after taking a week off! Sandra talks about the Island of the Dead Dolls located in Xochimilco just outside Mexico City. It’s called the Island of the dolls because the original owner Don Julián Santana Barrera, left a doll as a peace offering to a girl who drowned. Since then people have come to the Island to leave dolls as peace offerings. Take a look at our Instagram account for some creepy images of these dolls. Then Danielle discusses the classic tale of Typhoid Mary. An Irish immigrant who arrived in America by herself when she was a teenager. She worked as a cook to wealthy families until members of the households mysteriously started falling ill. Thanks in part to investigative sanitary engineer, George Sober, Mary was found to be a healthy carrier of Salmonella Typhi. She was found to spread the bacteria with her famous peach ice cream. Forced to live out her days in a hospital, was Mary in denial of endangering those around her, or was she willing to risk lives so she could continue working?
