EP #18 - Our thoughts on Walgreens and Johnson & Johnson earnings

from Dividend Talk · host Dividend Talk

This week we are discussing the recent earnings announcements of Walgreens ($WBA) and Johnson & Johnson ($JNJ). We are both very excited that earnings season has really started now.  There are many great Dividend Aristocrats and European Noble 30 members reporting earnings in the upcoming week. Actually, we declared next week 22 October as #DividendDay.  Several great companies are reporting their earnings on that day: Unilever ($UL $UNA) Hermes International ($RMS), L’Oreal ($OR), AT&T ($T), Coca-Cola ($KO), Intel Corp. ($INTC), Kimberly-Clark ($KMB).  Just join us Thursday 22 October at 10.30 CET or 9.30 GMT and let’s share our thoughts on those earnings reports. Send EMF or European DGI a message on Twitter or via their blogs and we’ll make sure that you’ll get included.  News from the week: EMF shares his reflection of the recent decision from IBM ($IBM) to spin off a part of the company. https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2020/10/ibm-to-split-into-two-companies-by-the-end-of-2021/  eDGI shares the news that Mexico put a ban on a dozen of global dairy brands. They seem to not live up to the standards that the Mexican government has described. https://www.reuters.com/article/mexico-dairy/mexico-bans-global-brands-dairy-products-for-breaching-standards-idINL1N2H50WE  Main Topic: EMF shares his reflection on the latest earning report of Walgreens. He is pretty happy with their earnings and feels that the company held up nicely during COVID-19. He also shares his thoughts about how he sees the company transforming very rapidly in a digital enterprise  eDGI shares his reflection about Johnson and Johnson in which he is very impressed with again a “Clock-work” quarter of earnings. He shares a bit more about the highlights of their sales and earnings which investors should be aware of.  After the main topic we addressed several listener questions:  Phil - Hypothetically, if the current CEO of a company stepped down, and you had the choice between the CFO or CTO to step up as next CEO - who would you choose, and why?  Danny - Any thoughts on space stocks such as Momentus thats meant to IPO start of 2021? Dividend Newbie - How long does it normally take to do a thorough analysis of a company before you feel ready to invest?  Dividend Wave - 1 growth stock you have on the watchlist or have bought. and why? Check out Christophers analysis here https://seifelcapital.substack.com/p/sea-limited-nyse-se-summary-research RepStones - You buying BP at this level? Last but not least, we both shared our stock pick of the week.  While you're at it, don't forget to hit the Subscribe and Like button 👍. AI Erik's Podcast Audio Erik Conn The AI News Podcast where we talk AI. NEWMORROW SESSIONS - A PodCast Series on the Future of Hospitality Mario C. Bauer, Florian Schneider, Axel Weber & Dr. Tillman Bardt The Newmorrow PodCast is more than a podcast — it's a platform for open dialog on the future of our business, a platform for those building what doesn’t exist yet. Here, we share and embrace our passion for the hospitality industry, but we won’t romanticize the journey. We ask the tough questions, confront uncomfortable truths, and prepare for a future that resists easy answers. We believe that the tougher and wilder times become, the more openly, honestly and humanely people need to talk to each other and act together. We believe, openness, togetherness, and truthfulness should also be cornerstones of a professional community to develop our utopian idea of „open source“. This is a space where visionaries don’t just imagine the future — they wrestle with the paradoxes that shape it: success vs. happiness, data vs. instinct, stability vs. reinvention. Join leaders, entrepreneurs, and thinkers as they share not what made them — but what’s actively shaping them, now and next.
