Ep. 19 Lake Shawnee Haunted Amusement Park and Rasputin

from Oy with the Terror Podcast · host Oy with the Terror Podcast

This week Sandra talks about Lake Shawnee Haunted Amusement Park located in Princeton, West Virginia. This once seemingly fun amusement park has been abandoned since 1966. It turns out this Amusement park is on land that has had a sad and tragic history. From Native American murders to finding children's bones underground. This theme park has more than one or two lonely spirits walking around. This park has been featured on "Most Terrifying Places in America" and you can even visit to see the spirits for yourself. Later Danielle covers the life and death of Rasputin also known as "The Mad Monk". The man, the myth, the legend. Perhaps better known for his death than his life. Grigori Yefimovich Rasputin was known for being a mystic, healer, and religious figure. He built up a reputation for being equally respected among the peasantry and detested among the elite. Once he joined the inner circle of Emperor Nicholas II after treating his ill son Rasputin starting making political recommendations which angered many people. In addition to slanderous rumors reported in the media about him having an affair with Empress Alexandra. A price was quickly placed on his head and his seemingly impossible murder came to fruition.  Sandra's Sources: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_Shawnee_Amusement_Park https://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/abandoned-west-virginia-amusement-park-bloody-history-article-1.1497567 https://visitmercercounty.com/lakeshawnee/ Danielle's Sources: https://www.britannica.com/biography/Grigory-Yefimovich-Rasputin https://www.smithsonianmag.com/history/murder-rasputin-100-years-later-180961572/ https://time.com/4606775/5-myths-rasputin/
