According to think tank CMIE data, the unemployment rate was above 27 percent in the week ending on May 3. The government is being advised to release a package for the poor. The government increased excise duty on fuel to meet revenue loss. The employment rate in India has been severely affected due to country lockdown because of the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic across the entire nation. As per the data released by CMIE, it can be said that every one person out of four employed has lost his/her job amid the ongoing lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic.
