from The Legal Yogi Podcast

In this episode of The Legal Yogi Podcast, host Vanisha Weatherspoon opens up about how grief and emotional pain impacted her energy, body, and relationship with movement. She shares how she transitioned from high-intensity workouts to more intuitive, gentle practices like Yoga and Pilates—not as a sign of weakness, but as an act of deep self-awareness and mindfulness.Vanisha explores how stress and heartbreak manifest in our bodies and why movement, when approached with intention, can help us process pain rather than avoid it. High-intensity workouts may no longer feel right, so lean into gentler forms of movement like Yoga and Pilates, or even walking. This shift isn’t about giving up but honoring what your body needs in that moment—showing that movement can be a form of mindfulness and self-compassion, not just a performance metric or an escape.By reframing exercise as an opportunity to connect with oneself, rather than another task to optimize, we open the door to a more balanced, mindful relationship with our bodies.Emotional experiences often manifest as physical symptoms, such as insomnia, low energy, mood swings, and headaches. This physical-emotional connection highlights how grief, stress, or heartbreak can impact well-being.RESOURCES:The Legal Yogi Podcast - WebsiteThe Legal Yogi - InstagramVanisha Weatherspoon  - LinkedInABOUT THE HOST:Vanisha is an RYT 500 and lives in Austin, TX. She began her yoga journey in 2017 during her 1L year at Georgetown Law. The first year of law school is the hardest and is often the gateway for the bad habits that run high among legal professionals. Lawyers are at an extremely high risk of alcoholism, drug abuse and dependency, anxiety and depression, so Vanisha turned to yoga to avoid falling victim to one of the former. It was here on her mat where she found peace, which led her to want to bring this to her law school community. Vanisha became a certified instructor during the summer of her 2L year of law school and began teaching classes on Georgetown’s campus in the fall of her 3L year. Upon graduation, she obtained her 300-hour certification in 2020 and moved back to Austin, where she teaches yoga and practices law as a 5th-year associate at a law firm.
