Ep. 20 – Jamie Ivey; Dream Job, Family Issues, & Making Sacrifices

from Sucker Punched

Meet Jamie, a blogger, podcaster, speaker, and writer, who dreamed of being a radio DJ. When her kids were younger, she won a contest that gave her a morning show DJ hosting job. She left her role of stay at home mom for the full time, Monday through Friday job at the radio station. Even though she was so happy to be working at her dream job, she saw that her marriage and family were suffering. Jamie says it was one of the hardest decisions she had made because she knew she was doing well and felt like she was letting people down. It was also an incredibly easy decision because she says she would always choose her family over a career and over something that provides momentary fun. Jamie and her husband Aaron supported each other through the decision-making and transition when Jamie left her job. She says she's proud of herself for deciding that her family was worth the sacrifice and as a result of that difficult season, she says now she can remember that she can trust God. Jamie gave up her dream job at the radio station and now hosts the wildly popular podcast: The Happy Hour with Jamie Ivey. Jamie's Answers to the Fun Questions: • What are you loving right now? LuLaRoe leggings • What's your favorite meal right now? Empanadas and husband Aaron's cooking • What are you doing to take care of yourself? Going for walks • What are you doing to be brave? The disease sneaks up on you and your loved one, and it feels like you’ve been sucker-punched in the gut when you get the diagnosis from a doctor. So many things race through your mind: why us? What do we do? We worked so hard to get to this point in life. We just moved here after we both worked for 30 years, sold our house up North, and retired to Florida to enjoy our “golden years”. It’s not fair! Who’s going to take care of her/him? I don’t know a thing about this illness. She’s always done the cooking; I don’t even know how to boil water. He's always taken care of me and everything else, like Finances. I don’t even drive! And it goes on and on. Facing this disease will bring you to your knees. Once you get over the initial shock (GUT PUNCHED), the questions and fears take hold. Where do we turn for help? Who do I call? What do I do? How do you take care of someone with Alzheimer's? Are there support gr Unfinished People Brandon Zieske & Chad Ellenburg Welcome to the Unfinished People podcast. I'm Chad Ellenburg and my co-host is Brandon Zieske. We are both pastors who love and follow Jesus. And we are both very aware of how unfinished we are. Each week, we will talk about the struggle and the beauty of living and breathing in these unfinished vessels. The apostle Paul describes this as carrying around the Treasure of Jesus in mere "jars of clay." Don't we know it.At the coronation of Jesus on the cross, when he punched death in the mouth, he said "it is finished." So why doesn't it feel like it? If you connect with that sentiment, come have a listen. Thanks.
