Ep. 206 - Dr. Bradley Dyer

from Small Changes Big Shifts · host Small Changes Big Shifts

If we could give every individual the right amount of nourishment and exercise, not too little and not too much, we would have found the safest way to health. - Hippocrates Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine at Premier Integrative Health, Dr. Bradley Dyer, knew that there was more to helping others than just the misguided healthcare system he was working in. As a hospitalist, he was expected to practice in a very protocol driven way,  which can be life-saving in acute settings,  however, the majority of his patients were admitted for complications associated with chronic disease.  He realized that the protocols primarily addressed the symptoms, not the root cause, and did very little to change the trajectory of the disease process itself. Seeing patients like this over and over again, Dr. Dyer decided to change course and learn more about addressing chronic illness at Dr. Weil's Fellowship in Integrative Medicine. From there he went on to become certified in Functional Medicine and his life, and approach to his patients, has never been the same. Don't wish it was easier, wish you were better. Don't wish for less problems wish for more skills. Don't wish for less challenge wish for more wisdom. - Jim Rohn  Tune in and find out all about:  Today's misguided healthcare system and how he's helping to combat chronic disease through functional medicine. The differences between Western medicine and functional medicine plus how to combine the two to look at health from more of a holistic and root cause viewpoint. Why we need to be paying closer attention to our gut health for overall wellness. What is weakening our gut and causing great amounts of health issues from diet to antibiotics to pesticides to easy over the counter medicine like Tylenol. His favorite health and wellness tips from gratitude to nutrition to movement. The growing movement of more and more people realizing that they can be their own health advocate. Listen and find out what impact he wants to make including utilizing more health coaches in the healthcare system and improving the physician education system to focus more on nutrition and prevention. For what it's worth... it's never too late, or in my case too early, to be whoever you want to be. There's no time limit. Start whenever you want. You can change or stay the same. There are no rules to this thing. We can make the best or the worst of it. I hope you make the best of it. I hope you see things that startle you. I hope you feel things you've never felt before. I hope you meet people who have a different point of view. I hope you live a life you're proud of, and if you're not, I hope you have the courage to start over again. - F. Scott Fitzgerald
