Ep #21 The Drunken Master with Martin and Sam from The Song By Song Podcast

from Flixwatcher: A Netflix Film Review Podcast · host Stripped Media

Not to be confused with 1994’s The Legend of the Drunken Master, this is Jackie Chan’s ‘break through’ film and largely considered to be one of finest martial arts film EVER made. Martin’s choice, chosen because he had never seen it before. Featuring all the classic Chan trademarks from the immaculately choreographed fight scenes, bonkers stunt work (no GCI, wire work or stuntmen here) and Chan’s doozy cheeky charm.   Scores [supsystic-tables id='22'] Its fair to say, it hasn’t aged well, even for super fan Sam, a re-watch wasn’t the rewarding experience he had remembered or anticipated. Poor editing and inconistant subtitles, length (nearly two hours!!) and basically what is the slimmest of passable plots overshadow the technical mastery and physical extremeness of Chan’s performance. Scoring low across all categories, not that we really expected anything else, a must for hardcore Chan obsessives and kung fu fans, it scrapes a 2.4 overall. Massive congratulations to Song by Song with their award, we recommend it for all music lovers, not just for fans of Tom Waits. *Also features an extended version of Popcorn Chat.   What do you guys think?
