EP 221: My Controversial Opinion on Facebook Personal Profiles

from The Direct Selling Accelerator Podcast · host The Direct Selling Accelerator Podcast

I’m doing it. It’s time to get a little controversial.  One of my favourite books, "Oversubscribed" by Daniel Priestly, emphasises the importance of not following the pack, but instead standing by your values, even if it means standing out from the crowd. In this episode, I want to share a rather controversial opinion of mine that often goes against what many other Social Media Trainers and Coaches believe - specifically in the MLM, Network Marketing and Party Plan Direct Selling Industry.  I’m passionate about this industry, and also passionately believe there’s a right way to grow your business, especially on Social Media. You see, an old friend of mine contacted me recently with an unsolicited message on Facebook about a business opportunity. When her name popped up, I smiled, thinking she was reaching out with genuine care and an interest in reconnecting… Only to find out she was promoting her new business opportunity with a rather generic message, sent to another hundred others too. This experience left a bad taste in my mouth. Social Media wants us to be exactly that - social. BUT with the rise of businesses on platforms such as Facebook, there has also been a spotlight on some bad (antisocial!) behaviours by a few, affecting many. And you know what? Facebook has even clamped down on the Direct Selling industry due to these behaviours - ouch!  So, I want to take a moment to talk about how to best behave on Social Media; in a way that will build meaningful and lasting relationships, actually grow your business and avoid getting your Personal Profile (and all the pictures, memories and everything important that goes along with it!) flagged by Facebook. Let’s talk all things Personal Profiles; what’s okay, what you should do, and what you absolutely shouldn’t. I'll discuss practices taught by others in my field and tell you what I won't stand for. In short, I believe in using Personal Profiles correctly to benefit your business growth. So, if that’s something you want for your business, this is the episode for you. Let's dive in!   We’ll be talking about: ➡ [0:00] Introduction  ➡ [5:34] Profile vs Page vs Groups, what’s the difference  ➡ [8:20] Three key things needed for a successful Direct Selling business  ➡ [8:53] How your Profile, Page and Groups help your business ➡ [10:02] Personal Profile do’s and don’ts ➡ [11:06] Don’t post constantly about your business or product ➡ [11:20] Do remember why people are connected to you ➡ [13:22] Don’t spam ➡ [15:09] Do use your Personal Profile to connect to your Business Page and Group ➡ [19:31] The Russian roulette of connections via LinkedIn ➡ [22:09] Don’t send unsolicited messages  ➡ [26:19 Do use your Personal Profile to create curiosity and intrigue  ➡ [30:09] How to create curiosity and intrigue ➡ [33:43] Don’t be anything but you ➡ [33:56] Build trust ➡ [38:01] Don’t post for the purpose of click-baiting ➡ [42:48] Inform people ➡[44:08] Look at the bigger picture   Resources: Book recommendation ➡ Oversubscribed by Daniel Priestly: https://bit.ly/46i68uj   Connect with Direct Selling Accelerator: ➡ Visit our website: https://www.auxano.global/ ➡ Subscribe to YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/DirectSellingAccelerator ➡ Follow us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/auxanomarketing/ ➡ Sam Hind’s Instagram: https://instagram.com/samhinddigitalcoach ➡ Follow us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/auxanomarketing/ ➡ Email us: [email protected]   If you have any podcast suggestions or things you’d like to learn about specifically, please send us an email at the address above.
