Ep. 227: Chemicals – The Good, The Bad, and The Unhealthy

from Fascinating Nouns

Ever since the DuPont company inspired the adage “Better Living Through Chemistry”, the number of chemicals that have infiltrated our everyday life has grown exponentially.  Some are derived from naturally occurring substances, some are completely synthetic.  All are truly unknowns.  I could run a list of chemicals that were touted as miracles at the time, and were later found to be completely toxic (Cigarettes, DDT, and Leaded Gasoline come to mind).  So how do we know what is safe, and who can we trust to give us an honest answer?  One man comes to mind:  Toxicologist Dr. Gerald LeBlanc.  Today we discuss his new book Everyday Chemicals, and hopefully we will arm you with the knowledge to determine for yourself whether that chemical is good, bad, or unhealthy.
