Ep 234 - Robin Dodd: Woodland Photography, Composition & Finding Order in Chaos

from Landscape Photography World · host Grant Swinbourne

Robin Dodd is an accomplished British landscape photographer whose work is deeply rooted in woodlands, rivers, and mountain landscapes. Based in the Chiltern Hills, just outside London, Robin is drawn to places of quiet complexity—believing the British countryside offers some of the most rewarding and expressive landscapes in the world. His photography balances structure and spontaneity, revealing calm and clarity within seemingly chaotic natural environments.   Entirely self-taught, Robin’s relationship with photography began at 14, developing film in his bedroom. A formative period living in Cold War Berlin shaped his visual philosophy, teaching him how creative freedom can exist even within physical and conceptual constraints. That mindset continues to inform his approach to composition and visual storytelling today.   Robin’s work has received significant national recognition, including winning UK Landscape Photographer of the Year 2021 (Your View) and British Wildlife Photography Awards 2024 (Black & White), alongside multiple shortlistings and touring exhibitions with Forestry England. His photographs are widely exhibited across the UK and featured in major publications.   In this conversation, Robin explores the emotional pull of the landscape, the role of weather, and the importance of slowing down to truly see composition. He also discusses printmaking, mentoring, woodland workshops, and his recently published eBook, Order in the Chaos. His insights reflect a thoughtful, grounded practice shaped by patience, curiosity, and deep connection to place.   I hope you enjoy the show!   You can find Robin’s work here: Website: https://www.fastfoxphotography.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/fastfoxphoto   Listen to this and other episodes wherever you find your podcasts or on https://grantswinbournephotography.com/lpw-podcast Or subscribe to my YouTube channel https://youtube.com/@grantswinbournephotography   Theme music: Liturgy Of The Street by Shane Ivers - https://www.silvermansound.com #RobinDodd #WoodlandPhotography #LandscapePhotography #BritishLandscape #FineArtPhotography #PhotographyComposition #NaturePhotography #PhotographyPodcast
