R&B/Country Singer, Songwriter, Artist… and "My Name is Lamont Van Hook" Growing up in Oakland, CA, Lamont was surrounded by music and musicians from a young age. He received his early training in his family church and began performing professionally as a drummer in a local R&B top 40 band at just 14 years old. Lamont's musical talents were further developed at Howard University in Washington, D.C., where he recorded two albums with the Howard University Jazz Ensemble and was selected as Student of the Year (Jazz Studies) during his Junior year. After graduating from Howard, Lamont settled in Los Angeles where he continued to develop his skills, performing and recording with the likes of Rod Stewart, Sting, Phil Collins, Diana Ross and more. Now, he has committed to his solo career as a country music artist, releasing his first country single "Something New" in the spring of 2020. Lamont's debut project, "My Name is Lamont Van Hook," (released 2024) features 8 self-penned tracks, 1 co-write, and 2 covers, including the country classic "Wichita Lineman."
