He is a market analyst, researcher, futures trader, investor, author and former hedge fund manager based in Monaco. He was born in Yugoslavia and lived through hyperinflation in the 1980s. He went to university abroad in the United States and Switzerland and then worked in Venezuela where he experienced his first banking crisis when nine of of Venezuela's sixteen largest banks failed and brought the country's economy to a grinding halt. He then returned to his native Croatia and served in the military during the last phases of Croatia's war of independence. From there he moved to Monaco to work in the oil trading business and rose the level of CEO, having built an R & D unit specializing in market analysis, neural networks and artificial intelligence in trading financial and commodities markets. He developed I-System strategies, launched his own high performing investment management business and managed units of other investment firms.  Krainer is also the author of finance related books and professional papers including: "Mastering Uncertainty in Commodities Trading," which was ranked #1 book on FinancialExpert.co.uk list of "The 5 Best Commodities Books for Investors and Traders, He also wrote "Commodity price risk, profits and value creation" and "Alex Krainer's Trend Following Bible." In 2017 he published a book based on his investigation of Bill Browder titled "Great Deception: the Truth About Bill Browder, the Magnitsky Act and anti-Russia Sanctions." The book was targeted by Jonathan Winer, former policy adviser to Secretary of State John Kerry (in the Obama administration) and Amazon deleted his account and reviews. They failed to pay royalties since 2018 but kept the book on the Amazon site at hugely inflated prices (while retaining all proceeds from sales) until just last week when Amazon removed his books from the site without explanation.
