The Gadianton robbers, a secret combination, resurface and seek to gain control of the government. The Lamanites reject the robbers and preach the word of God, leading to the destruction of the robbers among them. The Nephites, on the other hand, join forces with the robbers and descend into wickedness. The chapter ends with the Nephites dwindling in unbelief while the Lamanites grow in righteousness.
