Ep. 25: Revelation of the Meth-Head feat. @lowiqmoron

from HERE COMES THE BACKKLASH · host POOLHOUSE

Podcast bro and pseudo-executive producer lowiqmoron aka A from Thots & Prayers returns to the program. First things first, Poolhouse deputizes his friend as a member of the Knights, some illustrious esoteric order pertaining the intergalactic something or other. You know how Poolhouse is. The two take a brief deep dive into the secret history of the 808, wax nostalgic over early 80s electro, and unpack some hip-hop conspiracies before shifting focus to controversial writers Michael A Hoffman and James Shelby Downward. Poolhouse makes the case that we live in a hypnotic state ruled by warlocks. Lowiqmoron shares his journey to the schizo side. A Meth-Head Faggot is Revealed (it is not Poolhouse). Pasty British fags New Order are also headed to the Fun House, with NYC electro-disco production whiz Arthur Baker (“Planet Rock,” “I.O.U.,” “Out of Touch”), who famously would bring unfinished mixes on tape reels down to Jellybean’s booth at the Fun House in order to test out the response from the dance floor, as seen in the “Confusion” video. The crowd at the Fun House, a cosmopolitan uptown/downtown mix, anchored by bodyrocking Puerto Rican kids who possessed an intrinsic understanding of how to move to the complex syncopated 808 rhythms, were notorious for expressing their approval for a track by barking loudly back at the DJ (hence the interpolation of barking sounds on certain NYC 80s disco records, SEE: “Hip Hop Be Bop” by Man Parrish). Interesting note: Arthur Baker was mentored in studio by the godfather of disco and inventor of the extended 12” mix himself, Tom Moulton, who was briefly mentioned on Episode 23 (and in the accompanying show notes).Jellybean - “The Mexican” Peep this excellent 1988 profile of Jellybean in New York magazineHashin - Al-Naafyish (Time)Cybotron - Clear808 - The Movie (2015)Egyptian Lover - Egypt, Egypt - Live in Santa Ana 1985“Doctor” Dre of the World Class Wreckin’ Cru (there were far worse photos but they seem to have been memory-holed.
