He went on to serve six years in the Special Air Service Regiment (SASR) with K Troop, 3 Squadron, rotating through counter-terrorist teams and the full spread of special forces courses before discharging in 1996.Tom joined Victoria Police in 1999, passed the Special Operations Group (SOG) selection in 2002, and went on to spend around 20 years in the SOG. He was on the ground for some of Victoria's most significant sieges and counter-terror operations.
