On today's Zero Limits Podcast Matt Morris chats with Sam Bush former 2nd Commando Regiment operator. Sam Bush grew up the first-born son on a sheep farm in WA's Stirling Ranges before his family moved to Perth. Sam joined the army and after Kapooka and Singleton he joined 4RAR (Commando), serving in Charlie and Alpha Company and deploying to East Timor in 2001. In early 2002 he passed selection, earned his beret, and posted to the Regiment's Bravo Company. In Iraq in 2003 Sam ran Combat Search and Rescue for the SASR out of Al Asad, then moved to Baghdad on embassy protection tasks. In 2006 he deployed to Afghanistan with the Special Operations Task Group (SOTG3), seeing action on Op Perth, Op Nile, the Battle of Chora and through the Mirabad Valley, where a rocket attack left him with two fractured vertebrae, damaged discs and nerve damage. He stayed in the field until the job was done. Medically spent, Sam transitioned out, rebuilt himself in Cairns, and spent 16 years building high-voltage electrical infrastructure with Energy Queensland.
