Today, we're diving deep into a journey that many of you will find super relatable—my experience finding my first job in Australia! You know, there's something incredibly powerful about stepping outside of our comfort zone. It often feels like we're entering a new world. So, let me take you back to those first steps. Michael Umm, wow! That's amazing! Did you feel, like, overwhelmed at all? I mean, did you have a solid plan when you landed? Emily Great question! To be honest, it was a total mixed bag. I've always been a planner, but it felt like a chaotic rush this time around. Every single day, I'd scour online job platforms like Seek and Indeed. Honestly, they were like my lifelines during those first few weeks! Michael Hmm, that makes sense! But how did you actually keep track of all those applications? Did you have some sort of system? Emily Oh, for sure! I printed out my résumé and even took it to local shops. Sometimes, I felt like I was spreading my résumé like a pizza delivery guy! Haha! Plus, I leaned heavily on my friends and kept asking, 'Do you know of any openings?' Michael Oh, right! Networking is key, isn’t it? It's kind of like being at a party; the more people you connect with, the more opportunities just pop up, right? Emily Exactly! And I remember scrolling through Facebook groups looking for job postings. You'd be surprised how many leads you can discover just by being part of the right community! Michael Uhm, wait, did you actually land a job through Facebook? Emily Yes! I applied for part-time work, and just a few days later, I got an interview invitation. It felt surreal—like waiting for a text from someone you just met and hoping they'll want to hang out again. Michael Haha, oh man! That kind of suspense can be really nerve-wracking! So, what was the interview like? I imagine it must've been intimidating! Emily It was pretty chill, actually! I prepared for all the common interview questions. I mean, who doesn’t get a little nervous, right? But once I was in there, it felt more like a conversation than an interrogation. Michael Right, and you totally nailed it! But, uh, at that time, did you think your English was good enough? Were you worried about that? Emily Totally! There were moments I felt like I was speaking in another language. But you know what? It’s all about confidence. You just gotta push through those awkward moments! Michael Hmmm, so what happened after the interview? Like, did you get the job? Emily Oh, yes! I received the job offer and started working the very next day. It turned out to be this cozy café that quickly became my second home. Michael Wow! That’s super fast! So, did you discover any new skills while working there? Like, what did you learn? Emily Oh, for sure! I learned how to make latte art, which was so much fun! Honestly, it started as a way to impress my friends when they visited, but it became so much more—I learned about customer service, teamwork, and even how to handle orders under pressure. Michael Okay, okay, but did you face any setbacks? Like, were there rejections along the way? Emily Oh, yes, definitely! When you’re job hunting, rejection is just part of the game, and you have to embrace it. Honestly, it's a lot like dating—sometimes, you just have to kiss a few frogs! Michael Haha! That’s so relatable! So, uh, what’s the minimum wage in Australia? Did you learn anything about that? Emily Right? It’s pretty decent, actually! And that’s something I didn’t fully grasp before my journey. I learned that the minimum wage in Australia is one of the highest globally, which was a pleasant surprise. Michael Ooh! So, now that you’ve found a job, how did your day-to-day life change? Like, what was it like? Emily That’s a profound question! Suddenly, I was juggling work with exploring my new surroundings, which completely shifted my perspective on living abroad. Michael That’s amazing! So, with all these experiences, what’s your biggest takeaway from everything? Emily Multi-channel application is key! Whether it’s online or handing in paper résumés, blending both gives you the best shot at snagging that job. And don’t fear rejection; it’s all just practice! Michael Thanks for sharing all this! It sounds like such a wild ride! Emily Absolutely! Thanks everyone for tuning in! Don’t forget to subscribe and stay tuned for our next adventure. Catch you later!
