It’s funny how many people think farming is just about planting and harvesting, but it's way more than that! It's like an entire way of life. Michael Umm, wow! That sounds kinda wild! So, like, what exactly did you do on the farm? I bet there were some crazy stories! Emily You bet! I took the job to meet local workforce demands, primarily focusing on harvesting fruits and veggies. We usually started our days at the crack of dawn—sometimes even earlier! Imagine being up when it’s still dark outside. Not easy if you're a night owl like me! The physical aspect? Oh man, every day felt like an intense workout! Michael Hmm, that's super intense! So, like, did you have to deal with any crazy weather while you were out there? It must've been a real test of endurance! Emily Absolutely! Regardless of the weather—sunny, rainy, or super windy—we just had to buckle down and get the work done. I remember one time when we were harvesting strawberries, and it started pouring! Talk about slippery; I was practically doing the cha-cha just to stay upright! But when the sun came back out, the smell of wet earth and ripe strawberries was simply heavenly. Michael Umm, I can just picture that! So, you mentioned meeting people from different countries… Did you learn anything cool about their cultures? Like, were there any fun traditions or celebrations? Emily Yes! Meeting folks from around the globe was phenomenal. I learned about various harvest festivals, making our work feel even more meaningful. I even picked up a few words in different languages—words that always seemed to involve food! Michael Haha! That's awesome! But, umm, what’s this hourly versus bucket payment stuff? Is there, like, a big difference in how much you can make? I could totally see it as a race against your teammates! Emily Definitely! Being paid by the bucket can mean earning more if you're fast and efficient. But it can get stressful, like you’re racing against the clock! I remember one day, I was really in the zone thinking, ‘Oh, I’ll just pack one more bucket!’ But then, I twisted my back and had to take a break! So, it's a balancing act! Michael Umm, yikes! That sounds painful! So, hmmm—what kind of safety precautions do you have to take when working outside? I can just imagine a huge tractor zooming past or, um, dealing with wasps while picking berries! Emily Safety is incredibly important! We had to wear sunblock, stay hydrated—especially when it was blazing hot. The last thing you want is to faint after a long day of harvesting! And those tractors? No joke! You always need to be aware of your surroundings, like when I almost walked straight into a field sprayer! That was a close call! Michael [laughs] Oh man, that’s hilarious! But it's a little scary too! Umm, what about the fun side of it? Did you have any funny moments or pranks while the work was tough? Emily For sure! Amidst all the hard work, there were so many funny moments. Like during breaks, we'd joke about making 'veggie sculptures.' There was actually a competition to see who could stack the most zucchinis! Michael Haha! I love that! Umm, did you ever have a moment when something totally went hilariously wrong on the farm? Like, maybe you accidentally picked the wrong crop or got lost? That would make for a great story! Emily Oh boy, let me tell you, there were plenty of those moments! Like one time, I mistook some wild plants for what we were supposed to harvest! I ended up with a handful of weeds instead of fresh veggies. Talk about an awkward moment at the farm! Michael [laughs] Oh no! That's too funny!
