Dr. Mona’s revealed that children, mostly of color, were exposed to dangerous levels of lead after the city and state, in a money saving move, changed its treated water source from Lake Huron and the Detroit River to the untreated Flint River. This major public health crisis led to criminal charges that are still pending against former Michigan Governor Rick Snyder, and others in his administration. Dr. Mona says what happened in Flint is an “everywhere story” of environmental injustice.
