Martin started internet dating after his divorce. Sometimes he would find a girlfriend and suspend the quest, but start again once he had been dumped. So many of the women told him he was a funny writer, that he began to collect the dialogues. After five years of on/off dating, he looked at the material and realised there was enough to write a book. All the dialogues Martin has are based on exchanges with real women.
