EP 262: Rehearsing and Rehashing

from Showing Up To Life · host Art Burns

Another very common and prominent source of stress is the process of the mind to rehearse and rehash the future and past events of our lives. We rehearse an upcoming meeting in order to be prepared. Nothing wrong with that, right? In a way, no. But the problem is that our minds are really good at creating stories, very quickly. And because our brains are wired for survival, we mostly create stories around the worst-case scenarios. This leads to fear. Fear leads to stress in our bodies. Stress in our bodies removes the very resources we need to solve whatever problem we’re concerned with. So the key is to become present. And with a little practice, becoming present can be as easy and automatic as the rehearsing and rehashing. Want to learn some simple practices?
