EP 263: The Mechanics of Stress
from Showing Up To Life · host Art Burns
Stress is a physical response to whatever your body, including your brain, senses as a threat. And the system for this is truly amazing! The part of your brain responsible for the stress response is why you react to the screech of tires before you even know what’s going on. The trouble is that this same part of your brain is vigilantly monitoring your thoughts as much as it is your five senses. So when your mind constructs stories around perceived consequences to an experience, your brain reacts as if the story IS an experience. And the only way it knows to protect you is the stress response. And as helpful as this response is as you hear a screeching tire, it hinders your ability to creatively solve mental and emotional problems. Want to know how to avoid this physical response to your mental and emotional experiences? Shoot me an email at [email protected] so we can schedule a time to chat.
