That's something we haven't explored. Have we explored? God, that's a word. How do you want to explore it?
Tell me, how have you started recording now? Is that a standard? No, no, no. No, we'll do that so you make something along the lines of, I've just chucked my cod off into the river.
So, what are you wondering if things are going to change in 2020? Into the river, smod off then look. Paul, I've chucked it cod off. Into the river, smod off.
Don't affect your rod of fishing. Catch my cod in the river, smod off. Catch my cod in the river, smod off, smod off, smod off. We haven't had enough of that lately.
Sitting in my gravy or night, since I'm a shat in the bath. Baby, baby. I've been sitting in my gravy since I'm a shat in the bath. Oh, no.
Oh, no. Oh, baby. I was like, I was like, I stole this. Go here.
I can't imagine it. Look, we should return to that. But I think what, on the top of the agenda right now, Paul, is to introduce the listeners to Chapshaft. I've fallen bobbles until I got the grubbles came out.
Well, hello, what was you saying? I'm just sitting in my gravy as I shut myself in the bath. I've been sitting in my gravy since I've been shutting the bath all baby. Who's that gravy?
Who's that gravy? Who's that gravy? It's a crazy, crazy, crazy. Sorry, welcome to Team Jod.
The economy can't be popular. I go for the bargain, the chow is off. Of Great Britain and bring you the treasures we find amongst the trash. Well, come in.
Why don't you? Amongst the trash. Amongst the trash. Amongst the trash.
Amongst the trash. Amongst the trash. Amongst the trash. Amongst the trash.
I have nothing. You have fucking nothing. What's the podcast? Everyone.
Oh, God. Can we start again? I hate you. My first few weeks stroke months of cheap show this year.
Is that my weight? I need to get this information out. So just give me the time to do it and then you can do all the chotney, rogney, bar off car. I want to say that.
I'm not going to say that. I'm not going to say anything like that. Give me normal. You're having a lovely chat.
They just turned. They had you in the toilet. screaming up men's ears coming. He's sitting there.
Pissing up. I was not. I knew the minute you're walking through the series. I'd say something like that he liked.
Then he like walks out and the twat I do a podcast with walks in. OK, I'm sorry. I tell him you're busy and other thing. Fuck it out.
Shut up! I can't wait to do a live show Paul and we'll see which side of the bread It's battered. I don't know you on your live shows You just you told it with a flash grab you bet you don't do much except get all the laughs So going for the next few weeks of cheap show I need to write my right my fucking book which I haven't touched in ages I need to concentrate and find days in it because keeps you takes about two or so days to edit I want to give myself an extra day so I can make the editing simpler It just means taking out a segment of the show so rather than like 90 minute episodes We can do an hour for the next few weeks, you know what I'm saying? I'm saying you're going to say it's 45 minutes, you're going to 45 minutes It's just a corporate front, I'm saying it's a corporate front of four and any fewer than 45 minutes it won't be any more than an hour That's how I've gone shimmy!
Oh wait I'm thinking this is going to be a 90 minute episode! No it's not! It's not Paul, let's move on It's not so cool, it's not just a thought, it's not just usually cold open intro Two segments outro and what I wanted to do was do Cold open intro and segment and then outro So we're losing eight segments in the pool, peeling back the sweaty Beany motor because of Eli's of the show The slime diary, the film of slime over it, the beach curtain of the show Because of his syntactic vomit that coming out of his fucking gobble I decided to drop your saw segment out of the show So I'm punishing you, I'm punishing you, I'm your boss You're punishing everyone with dropping the sauce Come on! Let's go to the past year, you saw support, no one's liking it was more to the noodle special Went down like the Titanic, thousands screaming, multiple dead So let's just taste this sauce, block most of the movies made about it 100 years later They like the hat though, there's been a lot of engagement with that hat Yeah great, the biggest thing you've brought to cheap show recently is your fucking hat That makes you look like a touch of frost Did we have any sort of unfinished facts that we needed to put the cameras in?
Yeah, another thing we were going to talk about We just didn't find the time stroke for God, which was in the film A Colin Baker, the sixth doctor, plays the guy who has the knickers This is dangerous David's, it lasted ages which we covered in last week's episode For new listeners, hello new listeners Oh no, the listeners have all gone by now, anyone who decides to give this episode a try this year Has listened to the first fucking five minutes of your night, God nasty sauce And I open this source for the source report No, that's not happening, I'll be eating the source, something going forward You do what you want, going forward, you'll be eating the source, going forward You'll just be statistically having sauce And reporting on it, and then that's what the source report is And we agreed on the source report No, no one, you fucking do it, because that means I can edit out 10 minutes of this podcast and make it shorter So you talk for as long as you want, and then you just roll down to it Snippity-bip, snippity-pop, out goes the segment, oppity-plop I need your support on the source segment, Paul Do you? Why? Because I need you to taste the sauce with me, really? Pick your value, now I can see the value I see the source tasting element on the short front of cheap show now apparently Well, I just look, that's what it's a dynamic, I only cut you on that You have to be there to tell me the source is good or not, usually not Right?
Come on, it's a very brief source report I'm giving you 90 seconds to a source report, now Thank you, you just heard from the boss, now it's time for The source, yes that's right, it's the source report everybody, back to basics, back to normal, back to a hot source And that's what the source is all about for me, Paul, that's what got me into source in the first place Hot source, any of you don't have a hot source, just to add something there Yeah, when you put them in your mouth, it tends to be hot I have your spoon for the tasteings of the sources, okay? So, I'm gonna put this on this nice, hygienic piece of paper here, I'm balancing your spoon there Just for everyone else listening, I have now died inside, the last end was light, it's looking like the magic of my heart We're tasting some green hot source today, stuff out Do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do that Jamaica Valley is the brand, and it has a sort of mascot of a Jamaican lady, chef's suit, but she has the Jamaican flag, I believe You can see pictures of the sources and other things in the show on our website And then I'm gonna stick a fucking lemon up my house You're gonna stick a lemon up your ass, why? I want you to support the source report Hashtag support the support As you can see, support, support, support, support, support, support, support As you can see, it's part of the course, it's fucking denigrating the source Part of the course, it denigrates the source, alright? There's something else happening to me, I can talk to the source book This is Jamaican Valley, green, scotch bonnet peppers Where'd you get it from, why did I care, what's going on, I couldn't hate me I'm gonna make a ribby and shop up in Wood Green, lovely I'm gonna give it a huff, ooh, that's really what I was hoping for from this It's a very grassy, almost like a green pepper, I mean it is green peppers, but almost like a green bell pepper That you'd have just in a salad, green scotch bonnet So scotch bonnet, what kind of peppers that?
They're quite hot, and they're the ones that look like those scotch hats They're wrinkly, they're gimme scotch hats, scotch bonnets, like a beret Like a scotch bonnet, like an au Jimmy hat, what the hell are you Jimmy hat? You know, the Cranky's wore them or whatever, the Jimmy, alright Jimmy, he wore a schoolboy's hat Not a hin, it doesn't matter, Jimmy Cranky didn't wear it We jockey Jimmy hat or whatever it was called, he said, we jock him a lad I'm saying, he had a faking scotch bonnet on it, the other beret didn't he? You know what scotch bonnet is, he's got bonnet, he's got bonnet, he's got bonnet, he's got bonnet Stop being such a dick and smell the sauce Alright, I'm gonna smell the grit, it's very green You want to report on the huff on this? It's almost going to like bright translucent green or very, it's got a kind of reanimator hue to it It certainly does, I love a green hot sauce, it does have a kind of cross between like the herbiness of the grass like you say Let me say one word piece sauce, yeah grassy, and that's what you want from a green sauce, so red sauce You're hoping that to have more of a sweet serve, more tomato-y sort of a marmy end of things, you know what I mean?
Where as this has more grassy, this might be quite hot, alright does it say how hot it is, it's just sauce mate, there's a sausage flag on the side, you see that? No that's a Jamaican flag, ohh, but for my money I think Jamaican hot sauce is in my top three sort of places to get hot sauce from in the world It's what got me into it in the first place, Encona, here we go, past me the spoon, I've been handed, let's have a taste of this sauce now, wonderful, here we go, spoon, hot sauce, scotch bonnet pepper, green Ooh, ooh, ooh, that's very vinegary, and peppery, like black peppery, you know what I mean? Oh, extremely peppery, and vinegary. That would go nice with a sausage, you always say that, like a pork sausage, oh yeah, we're actually, yeah, alright, I hear that, well, I mean, what hot sauce wouldn't go nicely with a pork sausage, name one, see, this is where you get in everyone, he doesn't see, so it just fits, doesn't it, it may be correct, but it's one of those things that's correct just because it always is correct, you know what I mean, it's a binary, it's a fucking, you know what I'm saying, just try harder, anyway, that's more than 90 seconds, so congratulations, I want a fucking little breakdown of what you thought of that sauce, thoughts, it was a hot sauce, like the countless many we've had on this show before, except this one was a little bit more vinegary and can of watery in some respect, it had little chunks, it had chunks, it didn't have much flavour, it was a little bit more to it, it had chunks of pepper in it, so you'd give it a low score then would you pour, three, you didn't like it, I didn't think it'd pour, not going on in terms of complexity, what would you have it with, what sausage, I would have that with, oh gosh yeah, pork product, ooh, that would cut through, porky chops, that'd be nice, don't pour chops and some hot sauce, or you could have a vegan alternative, I'm not, you know, like a nut cutlet, whatever the fuckers eat, I'm not anti-vegan, we're in drive a genery, hello, what's, it's drive a genery again, what does that mean, vegan genery, whatever they call it, you thought if you were witty and you could turn it into a vagina, you could try a genery, don't you, and you want to go veganery, so I've put the two of you, you know, I've put the two of you, you do together, and I'm going to have a drive a genery.
That's interesting because my penis, everyone's to me, I've crossed must. Oh, no, that's the, I'm just going to stop there, that's good enough, that's the thing, that's the thing, that's the thing, do you have another second, do you have another second, maybe we'll talk about it? Yeah, that's it. Well, yeah.
I said we did the sauce, didn't we, yeah, we did, I just thought we'd get something else going on, you said we'd get sauce on the shelf and I wanted to check it out, I'm going to try those gummies, we talked about him last week briefly, we just had a conversation about them, we just had it, he's were sent in by friend of the show Mark Allen, he does, he has tried a bit of like, chili tasting, he's done it sort of not competitively, but he's looked into the world of competitive chili tasting, for the parameters of that, is it just how much hot you can hold in your mouth? Generally you start with a, with a, with a line up of contestants, right, and then you start with a basic chili, everyone eats that and then sauce, the chili, usually the whole chili, just like a chili, and that's usually it, you just have to eat the whole thing, one, eat round, and then there's an extra round, it's slightly hotter one, someone might drop out there and go, no, I can't do that. So it's like knock out with increasing intensities, until there's one person standing, screaming my throat, my precious throat. They must have sort of a firm, you know, if there's a tie at the end, they, you know, they must have worn a tie, both people can go all the way to the top, maybe if they're the type, one of them has to put a hot coal in their mouth.
Now these are gummies, now we've had some gummies that have chili in on the show before, haven't we? A few years ago, yeah, we had many minutes, we've been making a star, and they were really nice, not too hot, but they were nice, it can work as a combo, of course, because a lot of them forget to put the flavour in, they just go hot gummy, that was like, you could taste the fruit, so. Well, I sort of draw a line between people who actually want to make a nice taste and confection, and others were just getting on the gimmick of making it hot, those beans or whatever, punishment and toy foods, which surely sometimes falls into it. This looks like it falls into that category of just being hot, it's like, Satan's spawn, hotheads, Satan's spawn, angelic little gummy bears with a twisted dark side, which is the chili pot, Carbonero, okay, it's the chili in this, which is long since lost its lustre in terms of the hot pot on the clock, it's about as hot as I've got spawning, they're about the same level, and my scar, my scar, my hands, you want to do one of these teddies, they're red gummy teddies, bigger, bigger gummy than I expected, and softer, one of those mini gummy bears, yeah, because those are the ones I look like, so often kind of rubbery almost, and they were nice because they text you, but this is more of a haribo text, like they tried, he says they're pretty intense, so you're ready?
Intense, they're pretty hot, really, apparently, here we go then, first bite, nice juice, orange flavour, yeah, no heat so far, I'm getting, oh I'm going, it's quite a lot of heat, quite nice though, actually really nice, no it's not that hot, it's not burning at all, you may have at all, no, I'm getting the sparkle of it all in my mouth, they're kind of hot sparkle, definitely, heat there, yeah, you're good with heat, you do heat well then, yeah, to some extent, after a while, when it loses all flavour to just heat then I lose interest in that mix, when it gets too hot and I'm just hurting your mouth, yeah, I don't enjoy it, I don't have a guy for another one, I give those four out of five, really, you couldn't pound the whole bag of them at night, but, yeah, it's a bit of a hit chilly here, yeah, yeah, it's alright, yeah, you've got some water there, do you want to drink your water? No, you drink your coffee instead, well I enjoyed that, that candy, anything else? Oh, we've got these twigs, winter spice, no, I'm drawing the line, it's too, probably I've tasted it now anyway, you're drawing the line at two, I'm drawing the line at two, I'm drawing the line at two lines at two, hey, I'm giving the two fingers the twigs, I'm breaking the crustmars on your knob nose, giving the two fingers to the twigs, and all the goo weeps out, what? Your crusty, thrashy helmet, no you can pick the crust off and then it all sits out and you can get that one of the crustmars traditions, the little men come along and they break the crust on the crustmars helmet, the little coffee hammer, the treacle, all runs out, into their little snow cones, they get, they've got slushies and they put your knob bleed into their slushies, like a dirty slushy, so the crustmars elves come round with a toffee hammer, back to the top of my penis, the crust, they're getting it now, and then the seepage is then harvested for some kind of slushy, like a Mr Slushy, and then who buys that, the elves, I don't know how you keep it in between themselves, they enjoy it themselves, so they all just enjoy my sap, yeah, it's not a very popular festival, no it's not, in fact I want me to celebrate it next year's a result of all this fucking horror, you should know it's your knob, which forms the helmet, the crusty helmet of, not, not, not, not nop-ness, it's crust, very crustmars are happy knob, yeah, why are we even talking about this, this is mostly the new years, man, so like there we go, that's our first support, I'm gonna expect a few going forward, what do you mean, more unusual or cheaper, or more things that are on brand not just here's some sauce made, chaos on a spoon, ain't broke, don't fix it man, what's the sauce we're pouring in about, it's just a bin about sauce all the time, it's just sauce, pour, you can lead a horse to water, but you can't change its sauce, you can lead a sauce to water, right, well, while you like, I'm emotional breakdown, I'm, listen, I'm allowed one, every other episode aren't I, what a mental breakdown, oh yeah, you're crying, alright, alright, I'm alright, yeah, alright, yeah, because I'm not really sure, what we're doing on the show this week, we are looking through more of your platters, your tags are your finds, and we haven't done a proper platter in a while, so I'm not done, we haven't done a proper platter in a while, oh I know, I haven't done proper platter in a while, don't let's just please, you need a hard reset, oh don't let it splatter, I'll just drop the platter, I'll just drop the platter, I'll kill the cool, that's what's happening next, I'll join this for that segment then, okay, right, I'll do the intro for this bit, no, wait, I just want to give everyone a little notice, in the last segment Eli, laughs so hard he wet the couch he was on, so he's now had to put a towel down, you know, he's such a dick, all this name calling you like a frat boy, you know, alpha, alpha cheapest forever, you know, he's getting, you know, he's getting himself, trying to shame me, he's trying to, I'm trying to bladder shame me, you're trying to old man bladder tenor lady for men shame me, oh man bladder, aren't you, aren't you, either I pissed himself, that's the time you want, going forward is it, Eli pissed himself, actually that's what you actually want is it Paul, that's what you, that's what you want, can I answer please, keep on talking, I can keep on talking, do we talk about, ask me the question straightly indirectly and I will answer, are you PP shaming my heart, PP whole, and saying it, yes I am, I spilt some perrier water, if you must, if you want the middle class say when they pissed themselves, it's a perrier ain't middle class I'm all mates, isn't it, no more, the fuck's like, how's that, perrier shit and all, I don't agree with that, why, the bubbles get weak, the bubbles get weak, what happens, I have to like the taste of it, it takes Metalliki afterwards as well, Paul is on the Highland Spring, do you like that, Ochai Jimmy Manou, I got that specially for you, well specially for me, and you want people to think that I'm a grown man who wets himself whilst, whilst, whilst doing a podcast, that's what you want us to do, that's what you want people to think, I work with this guy, he's a bit of, he's you know, funny guy and everything, but he's all, he pisses himself all the time, that's what you want people to think, that's what you want people to think, I think, I think that would be nice, and I mean the thing, the thing is, and then he, that Paul, he makes, he makes fun of his co-hosts who pisses himself all the time, it's really, it's all that, that'll be fine, oh here we go, this is, this is, this is Eli Fox Knox all over again, it's all you can fucking do, Eli, Eli, Eli's got a dirty bum, Eli's got a this, Eli's pissed himself, Eli's come out the wall or whatever, I have never shut the bed, can I do the intro for this bit now, please?
Yes, please do, for the Silverman's Platter segment of the show, I'm going to hand it over to little baby wet, to do this show, here we go, hello everybody, it's not because I think you know, he's got, you know, this overall incontinence or illness behind this, I just wanted to be showing that, you know, he gives up on holding and controlling his bladder in moments of hysteria. You are actually going full in on the whole little sauce thing, which made him last so much, PP came out his tip tip. It did not, it did. I spilled perrier on the sofa.
Yeah, well. Right, I don't want to do the rest of the show now. Yay! Hello everybody, it's time for the section of the show where we look at some musical numbers on vinyl, it is Silverman's Platter and they're going to do that.
Is that patron saying? Yes. This segment has a patron saying. Does?
Clyde McFatter is a patron saying of Silverman's Platter and you know what Paul? Yes. He usually says something here because he likes to introduce me. He does, yeah, he's quite, he's, I've got his 80s doctors pager thing, he's paged me.
Oh, what he said? Well, just says, you know, can I read it out? No, it doesn't say anything. It just says, you've been paged, don't think.
Yeah, but doesn't it even mess up with the page? Well, that's enough. He's got contact with the, but one of the things that the message saying he wants to say something. Oh, he don't call him.
He just paged you. You don't, you don't call him. You don't call him. There are two reasons.
One is you send him a message or I never say he's never seen a page or a pager in my life. What are you fucking doing? I was going to give you just an example. I think it's a teller that I have no idea how it works.
Is there little messages on it even earlier? I don't want it just peeps. It just peeps, doesn't it? It does two functions.
You can put a peep sound effect in it or seem like I knew what I was talking about. Well, no, I'm not going to do it now. It's quite hard. That's quite hard.
Beep, beep. There he is. Beep, beep. Oh, those beeps, you know what they mean.
It's asking you to call him. All right. Okay, I'll call him now. Beep, beep.
It's ringing. Ring Ring Ring. He's answering. Hello.
I was just messing with you to say I wasn't available to do it as well. You're here on the show now. You've got to go by. He can't do it, Paul.
What? That brag came for some reason. Now, Paul, what have we got on the show? Well, what have you found for us?
We've got two. We've got two. It's cool. And I think we just thought we'd pull this to be.
Because following on for more apparently season of Bernard Cribbins' remembrances. Cribbins? Where do you find that, by the way? Of course, down to David's in the film.
On last week's episode. He's so much more like the face of Jack and Norrie. He was in a few carry-on films, a bit of Doctor Who. And he was behind, you know, what could arguably be called the greatest novelty record of all time, right?
Yes, he was called right, right? Yeah, right. So it was the second song after Hole in the Ground. Both songs feature a very similar theme of like, work as on a construction site or, you know.
But then the third that he made was Gossip Calypso. And all three of those were produced by the Beatles producer. George Martin. Around 62.
So this is before the Beatles. That's what I was going to ask you. Could you say you were like George Martin worked on like Kids Records? He was the head of the Children's Record department at Parlophone?
I don't know the story. But, I mean, it's part of the reason why, you know, he's called the fifth people or whatever, because he added that whole sort of fantasy soundscape that was textured to some of those later albums. Okay, didn't he? So he used to mean like Yellow Submarine, the whole soundscape of Yellow Submarine, that song.
You know, this is funny because that's my favourite bit all the time. I know that. I know that. I know that song.
Can't you do that? I know that song. Oh, he's the best. He's the best.
I haven't. Why is the other question there? Right. Fine.
You don't wear it. No, no, no. I don't know. I'd like to get wet.
I'd like to get a smishy splashy, man. Yeah, well fair enough. Definitely got loose. There's officially more water in and around you than there is in you right now with that bottle.
It's all right, I'm done. Yeah, you're all empty now. I'm just stuck. You can't just move the towel from behind you to there.
Oh, come on. Oh, my. Don't stand on it twice or think, yeah, that's a good job done. My sock is all soaked.
Yeah, no. No. No. I haven't got shoes on.
What's interesting about this track is that we'll be going back to the other one a little bit later. The record that you got today is by Bernard Crippens and it's called What? The A side, this is a demo on Pi records that I have demo. You can see by the big A, that means it's a demo record, which means it wasn't released.
Oh, right. I didn't know that. It may have been released, but this isn't the release. This is the one that the radio stations would have been saying, maybe.
I don't know their demo. Yeah, so sales reps. They get sent out to the record shops. But anyone always with a big A means it's a demo.
Yeah. Well, this is what I'm saying. What's interesting about this is that the song is called What Again? Sorry.
Makes someone happy every day. Makes them happy every day. And it's based on an advertisement that was initially started by the post office in the 70s before it got changed to British Telecom. Because I think the post office used to run the phone line systems in the 70s version.
So this must be the post office version. Well, this is where I get a little bit fussy on the details because the post office used to run the phone company. That's what I'm thinking. And then 80s came along.
It must be because this is essentially it's a propaganda or an advert encouraging people to use the phone. Effectively. Yeah. But I also wonder if that's kind of accidental, the message because the adverts were Bosby, which was a yellow cartoon bird of some kind.
He wasn't a telephone. Buzz buzz. No, but he was a bird. He's a yellow bird.
Yeah. Well, we'll get into that in a second. But interestingly, right, Bosby was a bunch of adverts that was actually saying encouraging people to use the phone. No, just to call people for the nice things.
Maybe adverts were like the yellow pages, not just say for the nasty things in life. Yes, but isn't that reminiscent of that Noel Edmonds hallmark cash in single that we covered on this segment before? Do you remember? Well, this thing is encouraging people to send a letter card, basically, by buying one from Hallmark.
And if you hear that special person, do you remember who's like that? You know, just make their day like this record. And then on the other side, there was some terrible saccharine sort of thing. And on the inside, the B-side had like a son taken from the popular charts at the time.
Yes. And I can't say. Yeah. Anyway, this is similar in that it's basically just saying it, you know, via song.
But the message of the adverts playing on people's emotions are being wanting to be close to people. They're not around. And using that to sell the service. It just seems weird because it's like these days it's weird to think of an advert encouraging you to use the phone system in this country.
Make someone happy. So it's like you cheer someone up. So the adverts, and I'll put an example of one in now. The adverts always like, we'll be on the phone and he has a conversation with another cartoon animal about something daft.
There's one about this. But they haven't heard this song yet. No, we're going to put the advert in first of all context here. So here's the advert.
Boomtown, trip yard. It's supposed to be. Busy. My old friend.
Had said you old dog you. One of you been up to. Well, it was me. I've been meaning to come around.
I've been tied up lately. Are you round school? Been chasing the milkmen again? Well, you know that cute little kingle up the road.
You keep telling us good about you. No. And apparently most of the character must have been a success because then they rolled out this kind of, I don't even know what you want to call it. Why would they release it?
Do you reckon it would have been a hit? So maybe it was the telecom. I think it was around then, wasn't it? Well, it says here in the Wikipedia page, it says, Busy appeared in a number of TV adverts with the cat trays, make some of the phone call.
The voice in the adverts was by Bernard Cribbins. And the character was created by trick film studios in London. There was loads of advertising campaigns, toys, badges, a comic strip in TV, comic books, apparently, and even a wristwatch. A Busby wristwatch.
I seem to remember as a kid. Oh, that's nice. I don't think I ever had one. Nice item.
But it was Busby Perks on the second hand and the watch had blue straps. But at some point, yeah, the advert range was launched in 76. So this Busby thing was in like 70s creation. And it lasted until it became British Telecom.
Right. So this is still, so once that song came out, 78. So I've got two years into the process, into the campaign. Anyway, the song, the height of the campaign, maybe.
Yeah. So I have a little bit of weird. There's another little notice, a thing I noticed, Paul. There's not for sale there, you see.
There's a demo as well. There's another one that was released in the charts. I don't know. I'll have a look on discogs.
Here's the clip of this song. Actually, I'm unhappy every day. Busby featuring Bernard Cribbins. Hello, I'm Bobby Bix.
Hello, I'm Bobby Bix. Hello, Bobby Bix. There you go. What do you think of it?
Well, it's, you know, quite well produced. It is. And you know what it reminds me of? I think I said this to you, but when we were listening to it, it has that Wombles mic back- Very much.
And I sort of beat old zest sort of melody. Poppy, op-beat kind of cheery kids chorus. The Wombles. The Wombles are a lot better.
Well, I was going to say the Wombles were spent about the same time as this song. Because 78, he was doing the Wombles song. He always devoted the Wombles to the TV show. Because Mike Bat sang the actual songs.
Right? Yes. And he also wrote the Wombles. Wombling three.
Wombles were coming our way. I was going through lines with Wombles and Mike Bat. Wombles were one of my first things. I wanted to go to Wombles.
You wanted to see if they were Wombles. You wanted to get it on with Captain Oren Oco, the flu. No, I was going to say, what's that? What's your name?
What's your name? I'm a D&C. I don't know. I've got a really big thing.
It's a kid's thing, wasn't it? It's a kid's thing. It's not Oco, you remember? Very fondly.
That gave you the Oren Oco flow, didn't it? This was written by Armorgan and C Chapman. Very little information online about that song. I couldn't, it doesn't say if it charted, it didn't tell you.
Or at least on that label part in 1917. It's a bit saccharin, isn't it? It's one of those things where it's not horribly offensive. And the chorus is a bit...
The chorus can't really work. It doesn't really work. Another thing I thought, well, I'm listening to it, is that Griffin could actually put a tune out. Oh, yeah, because he's not the song.
I always think of him as sort of, right-side phrase is a bit sort of spoken word, isn't it? He sings it, but it's more sing-songy in a way that doesn't be taxed at the vocal chords. He does a bit more gymnastics on this record, especially on the flip, which is just a jingle buzz beat. He says he does this way, he goes sing like an opera singer, and he sort of does an impression of a commaire record.
So he's doing sort of more tricksy stuff, like with his vocal. It just feels like, who's the guy who did the My Old Man's Dutterman, Lonnie Donnegan? The first kind of proper skiffle kit on the charts. Right-side thread's got a bit of that skiffle feel to it.
And the interesting thing about that is that when the beat was coming through in all these new acts, it was the first time you were hearing regional accents in songs. There were no songs to affect with this RP or fake American twang. And so people like Lonnie Donnegan and then the success of that allowed them to go, right-side thread. That's actually English accents.
You know, estry accents. Regional accents. Yeah, and it allowed the songs to have more of an identity, I guess. Yes.
So, Cribbins didn't have to sing hard. Yeah. Oh, yeah. And I didn't think of him as a singer, really.
No. Even though he had three hits with George Martin. Yeah. And so, Busby is a bit better, a bit sort of more swinging.
Well, the B-side, yes. You play the B-side now. Play the B-side. Have you heard about what's going around?
They spread the word about a certain word about now. Though he's no nightingale, he's right on the ball. Cuz he's good news from big to dayhood. I know some odd is with it all.
Who goes all around with a heck of a smile on his pack of hovers, be does? Who does that fancy tight flying without him trying hovers, be does? Now you should see it's a ring swooping, zoom in through the atmosphere. Who dole Busby loop the looping, get that picture out of here.
Who always gets it all swinging? I prefer it. Yeah, so, right. Often we complain that the B-side is just tossed off, but you don't get the feeling there, do you?
It's better. And it feels like it's had just as much effort put in. Yeah. Well, funnily enough.
Maybe there's never a chart, maybe it never was released properly. Well, the thing is, the ad was huge. The character was obviously in everyone's consciousness, because everyone was the T-shirts and Busby this and that. And I vaguely remember Busby growing up.
Because in that period, they were all characters like that. There was the Tuffity, the Squirrel, help Road Safety and all that kind of stuff. Tuffity and that was, I mean as well, Tuffity the Voice for Tuffity. Oh shit, he did as well.
And he didn't want to be trained sets, he did the Voice for that. He's done a lot of voice work and a lot for... I guess kids know him better. So I guess that's what I mean, a fond of him.
Because he was a big part of our childhoods and probably definitely our parents' childhoods even. He was seeing him in the Carry On films in the 60s. He worked for years and years didn't he? Oh, yeah, he's been batched at plays and films.
Doesn't hope the curse doesn't... Look mate, he's in his 90s. It's just the role of the dice. I know, that's why I feel bad.
We're going to keep talking about him week after week. What's the matter? Not if he can mention Bob's Suck it last week though, is it? No.
You know what I mean? Don't worry about it. There is no curse. Okay.
It's pulling me off the collar. So I wanted to go on a little tangent again about this Busby song. The animated bird, which was yellow, became slightly more orange in the later years. You can see it there.
Yeah. Had a bunch of that. And they were animated. And what I found out, which I thought really interesting, was the fact that the guy who designed Busby is actually an artist of note and he worked on the yellow submarine movie.
And this is trick. Trick films is that right? Let me just get that page back up again. I believe you said it was trick films.
It was this kind of trick films. And a guy called Charlie Jenkins. And Charlie Jenkins worked on the Elsmarine movie. And one of his things that he was famous for, but the kind of stuff pioneering.
It's roasting. So all those scenes at the beginning of the beginning of the beginning. What's telling the rig is it? Elsmarine.
And the bit where Elsmarine travels through time to get into the other space. That's all him. And he had a big, he brought in as well. The art directors and things like that.
So between the three or four of them, those people developed that technique. And then it was used by Bakshi on his abortive. Well, yeah. It's not new.
Disney hit on that. For instance, Snow White was effectively rotoscoped because they would take a film motion of the woman playing Snow White and then draw over that to get the fluid motion. If you draw onto the film cell, it's not. Yeah.
The woman didn't look like. That's what rotoscoping Jen is. It's a treatment done onto the actual film cells. Is that right?
The one specifically animating on top of putting something on top of the actual. Yeah. What was that? Oh, bloody.
It was a Philip K. Dick adaptation. Actually, I was like, oh, yeah. I mean, I love the novel, but it's incredibly dark.
I feel like K. Dick's darkest novels. Real head fuck that book. Really nasty dark paranoid dark place.
Let's do a Philip K. Dick book about like, bull's being stuff. It was supposed to be in the entuffity. All the icons of that era.
All in a sort of hell together. The Green Cross Copeman. David Prowels or everything. He's coming up as well.
I saw him in real life, you know. The Green Cross Copeland or David Prowels. I guess I was saying Prowels. He was in the eyes.
He wasn't doing Darth Vader. No. As the Green Cross Code, I went to a cinema and we watched one of these terrible children's film fund films, but it was like a Saturday film club thing. I vaguely remember my school.
I mean, my dad just took me to it. It was like, I get this fucking kid out of my psych. No, he came in with me. I didn't know regularly.
It was just once. Every now and then you'd go, it'd be kind. No, he only once. I can remember that.
He took me. I guess that's why I stick to my mind. It was because David Prowels was going to be. I think so.
He knew I liked Star Wars. Yeah, but what's he doing that before, after Star Wars? After. He wasn't the Green Cross Code man beforehand.
He definitely stole the Green Cross Code man afterwards. True that. We saw this very boring film, and then he was there. I wanted to ask him, why did he make the breathing noises?
He was dressed as the Green Cross Code man. As the Red Cross Code man. I was in Star Wars. I wasn't particularly impressed.
Did you know he played Star Wars? Did he play Star Wars? We got a failure. Of course.
Have you been listening to what I'm saying? Yeah, but even as a kid, you knew that was the actor in the suit, even though the voice was not his. Yes. No, I just knew he was in the suit.
Weird. I didn't know about the voice. I just knew he was the guy who was in the suit. I didn't worry about the voice.
The voice is not his voice. It's not his voice. He didn't give a shit about the voice. He's not his voice, and when they were feeling the red tone of the Jedi, it's his face.
I'd be fucking pissed off. I'm getting proud. No, he can't, I'm saying I'm going to fucking put nothing in a view. They were proud, slow ring, ring, ring, ring.
Hello. It's Anthony Daniels. He's like, I'm not in Star Wars. I am your not.
Anthony Daniels is a very nice man. He's a knock though, isn't he? He's dead, isn't he? No.
Three P.D.O. He's still around. I think he's got more Star Wars credits than any other person ever so he was Star Wars. Because every time someone goes, do you want to voice C3 players on bullshit, video game, or advert, or whatever.
It's made a whole career of being that character. Yeah, I mean, very protective over it. Is he? Yeah.
Apparently he's the right and miserable cunt. I mean, this is all the people's opinions stories. If you look at the original trilogy, the character's a bit of a twat, isn't it? C3.
Yeah, no one likes C3. No, because he's a dick. He wants to obey authority, doesn't he? He just wants to, you know, he's a sniffling piece of shit, isn't he?
It's more like he's there to like flummox people, to kind of show you that the stakes are too big. You know what I mean? He's there to go, I'm also a bit like a vampire master. Yeah, well, he's nagging everyone else.
That's what he did. He was like, fucking shut up. Yeah, well, I agree with Arthur. Well, everyone's side with R2.
Oh no, because he's a prick. Yeah. So that's what I'm saying. He's a prick in real life.
A character's a prick. Fuck off. R2's like, this fucking cunt follows me around. They all fucking that.
I want to be free. I want to hang out with BB-8 these days. He's been cool, new buddy. And Anthony, that's...
Are they buddies? Have they had a touching scene? A touching scene. We like, we've had their balls up.
Yeah, it's a bit of BB-8. Big ball eight. Yeah. That's what BB-8 is.
That's what BB-8 is. That's what BB-8 is. Big ball. It's a dick too.
Rob's too dick too. I went to the river, I rode in a cot. What river was it? It was a river spot.
I'm swimming in the gravy tonight. No, no, no. Perhaps we can get the cot into the fizzy gravy. Erm, cot in the fizzy gravy.
Cot in the fizzy gravy. Cot in the fizzy gravy. Fizzy gravy. Who's gravy?
It's my own gravy. I'm sitting in my gravy in a loop ball. A loo-fizzy gravy. Bubbles of gravy popping all of my thighs.
I thought it was a fart. But it turned out being a shark. I'm in my gravy. I'm sitting in my own savory gravy.
If anyone's listening, I'd like to produce it as an official track. I am very much. It's doing for Christmas number one. Yeah.
Christmas number one. We're going to raise money and we're going to call it. Sitting in my gravy. And then it brackets my own fizzy gravy.
No, brackets. Brackets the cot song. Right. Are we done with that?
Did we dumbbuzz be? Did we dumbbuzz be? We've done a connection with anything else. We've done a submarine.
We've done the guy who did the road just coping. We've known what the songs related to buzzbee. It reminds me of another song we covered. The post-code song as well.
It's similar to us. Where they're used to having unthinkable now. Like so many genres of novelty records. And that Boston cast thing we did a few years ago.
It's pretty unthinkable now. They're having a song out. Do you know what I mean? Yeah.
But they had to say about it. Why don't modern companies do that? Why don't Facebook release a song? Yeah.
Imagine. You use Facebook to wake up every day and hate your life. Use Facebook. You'll want to end it all.
Because at the time line, and everyone's more successful than you, the one friend you grew up in. I think they do that in the song. No. No.
It'd be more balladies. Like, think of a world where you're still in touch. You can speak to your mum, but not too much. You can speak with the lens and remember that you've got some international friends.
Yeah. But yes, it is the equivalent, isn't it? And those types of songs don't exist. The most post song, it's shit to every day.
The post song literally was a song saying, get ready for this change and the way we'd administrate the mail. Do you know what I mean? The best way to do that would be via song. But Britain is a country that can have novelty song successes.
So it's not too out of the thoughts. You know what I imagine there was a song. You know when they went from 01 to 0171? Imagine when they changed that.
If they were a song. If you're too confusing, because if you're doing a lyric where you have to repeat information and then tell them new information. And you've got it's not 01 anymore. It's like, what is it 0171?
You have to remember it. You'd have to write it better than you've just attempted to, wouldn't you? Well, I guess the latest one we had of that, actually, was the Brexit clip. My great Brexit clip.
And also, wasn't there a song called Dog Police or something? Dog Police? No one knows you. That one.
No, I'm a dog police. My arsehole. Dog police. Sure arsehole.
They do because it's insecure. Dog police. Music video. 1983.
I've never heard of this. Just go for a throw. I love it. I love this.
We're still cartoon. It's men in Bogmas. He's not a guy in a dog mask, Paul. He's freaking me out.
You can see it. Was this like sparks or something? This is weird. This is all meant.
This is all like, wink, wink, isn't it? Dog police. Who are they going to arrest? Oh, there's a sleazy bar.
It is sparks. There's a guy in a mustache there. The dog police are going to come. Is she a dog?
She got something on her face. Yeah. It's like Jacob Slatter or something. Oh, it's weird.
She's got a funny dog. Okay, there's a little person serving her. I think I've fallen asleep. I'm not doing the podcast.
It's a nightmarish video, man. When's he going to say dog police? He's never going to say dog police. There's no chorus.
It just keeps going on and on. I think he's going to say dog police. Okay, I'm frightened by this. Paul.
Paul, there's the dog police as well. Why? Who is it by? Dog police.
It's by dog police. Are you joking? Dog police is a short-lived 1980s U.A. band for Memphis, Tennessee that briefly gained notoriety because of their song, Dog Police.
In 83, the videos featured at MTV's late night show, Basement Tapes and was on heavy rotation throughout 84. Blah, blah, blah, blah. I've never heard of that at all. I'm surprised.
That actually surprises me. Dog police. I've never seen that record. I have no idea about that record.
The band was inspired by New Wave Pioneer's Devo. Yes. It was a beautiful song. I reckon it's the name of the band as well.
You know what I mean? It's not people I'm going to tell you seriously then. Well, the album was self-titled as well. Dog police.
I had a record. Johnny's far off. There was 10 songs on the album. One 800.
Oh, you middle class enough. I'm butting. I'm not a little. I'm not a little.
I'm not a little bit. I'm not a little bit. I'm not a little bit too old. I'm not a little bit too old.
It was 10 songs on the album called One 800. Oh, you middle class enough. I'm butch and positive reports. It's all very sort of arch, isn't it?
