Episode Notes: Kenya High Court Trans Ruling — Justice Bahati Mwamuye ruled May 20, 2026 that existing Kenyan law does not prohibit transgender people from applying to change gender markers on official documents. The case was brought by activist Audrey Mbugua Ithibu and two others in 2020. State agencies were ordered to consider applications within 60 days. Same-sex relationships remain criminalized under colonial-era laws. Jason Virgo, One Nation MP — South Australian MP Jason Virgo (One Nation, MacKillop seat) delivered his maiden parliament speech on May 21, 2026, confirming he is gay and thanking his partner of 11 years — an Indonesian Muslim man — calling him "the love of my life." His party's colleague Cory Bernardi made anti-trans remarks in his own speech the day prior. Durham Pride 2026 — Reform UK-led Durham County Council pulled funding in 2025, calling Pride "political street theatre." Trade unions including Equity, the Durham Miners Association, and TUC raised over £15,000. Durham Pride will go ahead in late May, featuring Steps' Claire Richards, Gareth Gates, and Adam Rickitt. The Pride flag will fly outside locations other than County Hall, which removed it after Reform took over. The change follows a two-year dispute involving a trans woman member. The YMCA's gender-identity-based locker room access policy remains in effect. Denny Blaine Park Trial — Trial begins May 27, 2026 in Seattle.
