After decades of directing television and a few forgettable movies, Donner delivers his first box-office hit and a true horror classic. This film is one of the best satanic panic films of the 60’s and 70’s; the other two greats are Rosemary’s Baby and The Exorcist. Composer Jerry Goldsmith won his only Oscar for his tone setting music. Gregory Peck, Lee Remick, David Warner, and especially Billie Whitelaw deliver believable performances.
